Fast Start Propels Field Hockey to 4-2 Season-Opening Victory at Stockton

GALLOWAY, N.J. – The Arcadia University field hockey team outscored host Stockton University 3-0 in the first half on its way to a 4-2 non-conference victory Tuesday afternoon in the 2015 season-opener for both teams.
 
Freshman Lindsay Bechtold opened the scoring just 10:23 into the match, tapping in a pass across the goal mouth from senior Rachel Longenecker for the first goal of her collegiate career. Senior Debbie Wolfe followed just four minutes later after hammering home a shot off a feed from classmate Taylor Dalisera, and Longenecker capped the first half scoring in the 24th-minute after tipping home Wolfe's lead pass.
 
The Ospreys tried to stage a comeback in the second half, scoring twice in the first 10 minutes to get back within a goal at 3-2. Kellie Brining scored 1:41 into the frame to get Stockton on the board and Leah Davies tipped a pass home 8:38 into the period to make it a one-goal game.
 
The Knights settled things down after that, and junior Allie Hines capped the scored with the first goal of her collegiate career for the 4-2 final.
 
Junior Brittany Hodson recorded nine saves to pick up the win in goal for the Knights, seven of which came in the second half. Emily Sorochynskyj had seven stops while taking the loss for the Ospreys.
 
Arcadia owned the first half with an 8-4 advantage in shots and a held a 7-4 margin in penalty corners, while Stockon controlled the second frame with a 13-5 advantage in shots and a 9-5 edge in corners.
 
The Knights will next open the home portion of their schedule Thursday, hosting seventh-ranked Ursinus College at 7 p.m. at Easton Field.
