GLENSIDE, Pa. – Visiting William Paterson University pulled ahead with 10 minutes remaining in the second half to pull out a 2-1 non-conference victory over the Arcadia University field hockey team Monday night at Easton Field. The Pioneers improved to 5-4 with their fourth win in five games, while the Knights fell to 4-5 with their fourth consecutive loss.
McKenna Reynolds gave William Paterson an early 1-0 lead when she scored on a scramble at the right side of the cage for her fourth goal of the year. Arcadia senior
Mia De Plato was able to stop the first two shots in the sequence before Reynolds was finally able to get the ball past her. De Plato went on to finish the game with five saves.
The score remained that way until the 51st-minute when senior
Taylor Dalisera scored off a corner inserted by classmate
Debbie Wolfe, lifting that ball over the top of Pioneers' goalkeeper Meg Davies for her first goal of the season. The game didn't remain tied for long though as Elizabeth Kerr fed the ball in front from the right of the cage and Carly Satter tipped it home to put William Paterson out in front for good.
Arcadia had plenty of quality scoring opportunities throughout the second half, which saw Davis record five of her six saves and a defensive save by Meghin Stanton on a bid from Dalisera the minute prior to her goal. Dalisera returned the favor on Stanton with a defensive stop of her own with 2:15 remaining in the match to keep it a one-goal game.
The Knights will look to get back in the win column Wednesday night when they host Rowan University at 7 p.m. at Easton Field.
