Men’s Basketball Edges Hood 70-65

GLENSIDE, Pa. – The Arcadia University men's basketball team picked up its fourth straight win Saturday afternoon holding off Hood for a 70-65 decision. Freshman Evan Slone and senior John Landro powered the Knight offense with 17 points each. The win moves Arcadia to 9-2 on the season including a 3-1 conference mark.

Hot shooting from beyond the arc sparked a game opening 18-6 run over the first four minutes. Landro and rookie Josh Scott each nailed a pair of threes in the span to help the Knights to a lead they would see tied, but never over taken. Sparked by a pair of threes of its own, Hood pieced together a 9-0 run over a three minute span in the middle of the first half to pull within three at 27-24 with 7:30 left until the break. Slone brought that run to an end by sparking a Knights' run of five straight, pushing the lead back to eight following a Tom Feraco free throw with 4:31 to go in the half. Arcadia took a 37-30 lead to the half.

Landro tied for a half-best 12 points on 4 of 6 shooting, all from three point land. Scott posted five points in the frame while Ryan Kelley, Kyle Reilley and Slone each recorded five. As a team, the Knights shot 52% from the field in the opening 20 minutes. Hood's Daniel Wegener matched Landro with 12 points on 4 of 6 shooting while also converting 4 of 5 free throws. He was supported by Ian Eversull. The Blazers shot 42.3% from the field in the half.

Senior Alex Cohen sparked a second half opening seven point run with a jumper 13 ticks into the half before Kelley capped the run by putting Arcadia up 44-30 with a three just shy of two minutes in. Scoring six points in just over a minute, Hood began its comeback attempt by pulling within seven with 15:21 to go. The teams exchanged short runs over the next eight plus minutes with Hood pulling within five with 7:10 left. A three-point play from Kelley capped an 8-0 spurt that saw the Scarlet and Grey reclaim a 13 point lead at 63-50 with just under six minutes to go.

Hood's Jared Ruiz scored the final seven points of a 13-0 Blazer run to tie over a four plus minute span to tie the game at 63 with 2:21 left on the clock. Senior leadership took over for the Knights as Cohen and Landro combined for the next seven points to help Arcadia pull away with the win.

Slone led the Knights with 12 second half points on 6 of 8 shooting in a second half that saw the Knights shoot 46.4%. Led by Ruiz's 17 points on 6 of 9 shooting, the Blazers shot just 37.5% in the frame.

Arcadia shot 49.1% for the game from the floor led by Slone's 8 of 10 performance. Kelley was a third Knight in double-figures as he notched 11 points.

Ruiz led all scorers with 21 points on 8 of 16 shooting for a Blazer team that shot 39.7% in the game.

The Knights return to action on Monday night when they host Rutgers-Newark in a 7 p.m. contest.
