Women’s Volleyball Downs Rutgers-Newark and Misericordia at Knight Invitational

GLENSIDE, Pa. – The Arcadia University women's volleyball team opened the Arcadia Invitational with a pair of victories, starting the day with a 3-0 win over Rutgers-Newark before closing the day's action with a 3-1 win over Misericordia. The Knights evened their record at 11-11 with the two wins.

ARCADIA 3, RUTGERS-NEWARK 0 (25-17, 25-21, 25-22)

HOW IT HAPPENED: The first set was tight from the opening whistle as neither team led by more than a point until the Knights used a three-point run started and capped by kills from freshman Shannon Ryan to take a 9-6 lead. The visitors battled back to tie the set at 10 before three kills in a row to open a 13-10 advantage they would not relinquish. Sophomore Brionna Cox finished a game-ending three point run with a service ace.

Rutgers-Newark opened the second set with a 7-1 run, but the Knights pulled back within one at 11-10 following a three-point run that included kills from Cox and fellow sophomore Katie Wilson. Cox later capped a 10-2 to close out the game, which was capped by a kill from Ryan for the 25-21 final.

The two teams exchanged scoring surges throughout the third game before the Knights pulled away with a five-point run to jump out to a 21-17 lead. A kill from Wilson started that run, and she later ended the set with a kill to complete Arcadia's sweep.

ARCADIA 3, MISERICORDIA 1 (21-25, 25-22, 25-22, 25-15)

HOW IT HAPPENED: The Knights managed to build a 16-12 in the first set following a kill from sophomore Becca Campf, but were unable to hang on as the Cougars scored 11 of the next 13 points to take a 23-18 lead before taking the set 25-21. Misericordia led for most of the second game and was up 22-20 after a kill by Megan Collins, but that proved to be the final point it would score in the set as Wilson's kill that followed started a five-point Arcadia run to close the set. Sophomore Sam Dulak ended the set with an ace, her third in a four-point span during that run.

The two teams went back and forth throughout the third set before senior MaKenna Micklus started a four-point run that gave Arcadia a 20-18 lead. The teams exchanged points from there before a Kill by Micklus and an ace from Campf secured a 25-22 win that gave the Knights a 2-1 lead in the series.
