GLENSIDE, Pa. – The Arcadia University women's volleyball team dropped a 3-0 MAC Commonwealth match to visiting Messiah College Wednesday night at Alumni Gymnasium, dropping its record to 13-12 for the season and to 2-5 in conference play. The Falcons improved to 20-4 overall and 5-1 in conference with the win.
HOW IT HAPPENED: Messiah scored 13 of the first 16 points of the opening set on its way to a 25-17 win in the opener. The Knights used a five-point run to pull with 16-11, but that was as close as they get in the first set. The lead exchanged hands multiple times in the second game and Arcadia led 20-17 following a kill from freshman
Kaylee Bumpus that capped a three-point swing for the Knights, but Messiah closed the set with an 8-1 run to take it 25-21 and go up 2-0 in the match. The third and final set played out in similar fashion, with the Falcons closing it out with a 7-1 run to take the set 25-20.
ARCADIA LEADERS: Freshman
Shannon Ryan hit .400 with nine kills and one error on 20 attempts while totaling a match-high four service aces to lead the Knights. Sophomore
Becca Campf was second on the team with five kills. Bumpus handed out 17 assists, while freshman
Emily Eng led the team with 11 digs.
MESSIAH LEADERS: Kristen Douglas and Braedyn Gallagher totaled 11 kills each to lead the Falcons to the win. Brooke Gallagher registered 38 assists and nine digs, while Emily Zellers recorded a team-best 13 digs.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS: The Falcons outscored the Knights 53-30 in the match while hitting 24-percent as a team. Arcadia hit just 11-percent for the match.
