BRYN MAWR, Pa. – The Arcadia University women's volleyball team went 1-1 in a tri-match at Bryn Mawr College Saturday, defeating the host Owls 3-0 after falling by the same score to Johns Hopkins University earlier in the day. The Knights' record now stands at 14-13 this season.
Arcadia 3, Bryn Mawr 0 (25-15, 25-14, 25-13)
HOW IT HAPPENED: Arcadia jumped out to a 10-4 lead on its way to winning the opening set 25-15, and outscored Bryn Mawr 16-5 to close out the second set after being tied at 9-9 for the 25-14 final, ending on a kill from sophomore
Lizzie Joseph. The Knights opened the third and final set with a 16-3 run that was capped by back-to-back service aces for freshman
Kaylee Bumpus on their way to a 25-13 win to complete the sweep.
ARCADIA LEADERS: Joseph hit 40-percent with a match-high 11 kills, while Bumpus hit 43 percent with eight kills, five digs and three aces. Freshman
Shannon Ryan also totaled eight kills to go with six digs and three aces, while junior
Colleen Stengel handed out 32 assists while notching six digs. Freshman
Emily Eng had a match-high 20 digs.
BRYN MAWR LEADERS: Caroline Cosby totaled nine kills with six digs to lead the Owls (3-16), while Camille Baechler was second with five kills and totaled four digs. Allie Nagelski led Bryn Mawr with 17 digs.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS: Arcadia outscored Bryn Mawr 54-21 while hitting 31 percent as a team. The Knights totaled 38 kills, 11 aces and five blocks. The Owls hit just six-percent as a team with 17 kills and 11 errors.
Johns Hopkins 3, Arcadia 0 (25-17, 25-23, 25-23)
HOW IT HAPPENED: The Knights held their own early in the opening set; however the Blue Jays used a 5-1 run to jump to a 13-9 lead to take control. Johns Hopkins' lead was extended to 23-15 before the teams exchanged points to close the set. The second was a see-saw affair until the Blue Jays took the lead for good on a six-point run midway through the game. The Knights answered with the next four points but couldn't come all the way back as the Blue Jays prevailed 25-23. The final set played out in similar fashion, with Johns Hopkins scoring the last two points for another 25-23 win to finish the sweep.
ARCADIA LEADERS: Ryan led the Arcadia attack with 10 kills and completed a double-double with 10 digs, while Joseph added seven kills. Eng recorded a match-high 17 digs, Stengel handed out 20 assists.
JOHNS HOPKINS LEADERS: Erica Johnston's 13 kills were a match-high, as were Kristi Rhead's 30 assists. Esther Hong led the way defensively with 13 digs.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS: The Blue Jays outscored the Knights 52-36 in the match while hitting 28-percent. Arcadia hit 15-percent.
