GLENSIDE, Pa. - The Arcadia University women's basketball team finished strong, including outscoring Widener 15-4 in the overtime period to claim an 81-70 win over the Pride in the home finale Tuesday evening.
Addy Crenny finished with a game-high and career-best tying 28 points while adding 12 rebounds for her 13th double-double of the season. The Knights move to 10-14 on the year with a 5-10 conference record, while Widener falls to 12-12 with a 5-10 conference record.
A 16 point run that took up over half of the fourth quarter proved to be the turning point as the Knights went from a 15-point deficit to a one point lead. Following a layup by Widener's Sarah Engman that put the Pride ahead 56-41 just 14 seconds into the fourth quarter, Crenny and the Knights went to work as the senior opened the run with by converting a layup from junior
Imani Alston and making the ensuing free throw. A free throw from DiMuro brought the Scarlet and Grey within in single digits at the 8:43 mark before Crenny put the Knights ahead at 57-56 with exactly four minutes to go in regulation.
The run fueled the Knights to a 25-point quarter, however the defense played a huge role in the frame holding the visitors to just 12 points on 4 of 16 shooting.
The momentum would carry into the extra session as the Knights never trailed as they scored 15 points, including the final nine on free throws, while allowing just four from the Pride.
Arcadia overcame a lackluster second and third quarter to shoot 37.3% on the night with 34 points coming from in the paint. Crenny and DiMuro were the game's top two scorers with Roseman chipping in 11 as the third Knight in double figures.
Widener converted 34.2% of its field goals, including a 5 of 23 effort from beyond the arc. Brianna Wylie scored a team-high 17 points and completed the double-double with 12 boards. The visitors got a strong effort from its bench as the Pride's bench outscored the Knights' 27-7.
A game opening six-point spurt got the Knights off to a hot start en route to a 21-17 lead after the opening 10 minutes. Widener would respond in the second and third combining to outscore Arcadia 37-20 in the middle portion of the contest.
The Knights finish off the regular season on Saturday when they travel to Messiah for a 3 p.m. contest.
