Baseball Ties Eastern 3-3 in Weather Shortened Game

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – After two weather-related delays, the Arcadia University baseball team ended its midweek game with the Eastern University Eagles in a 3-3 tie at Erny Field. The Knights move to 7-5-1 on the season while the Eagles are now 3-6-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED: Arcadia plated a run in the first inning, after freshman Nick Ponente was able to cross the plate on a throwing error by Eastern catcher Timmy Gorton. The Knights scored again in the third, after junior Jordan Draude doubled left to score senior Michael Nessel for a 2-0 lead. After a 58-minute lightning delay in the fourth inning, Arcadia would score another run in the fifth, as junior Justin Chasmar was able to make it home while freshman Luke Hohenstein's attempted to steal second. In the top of the sixth inning, Eastern would get runners on second and third base before another weather delay kicked in. Following the 30-minute delay, Joseph De Los Santos walked to load the bases before Andrew Check singled to score Gorton. With the bases still loaded, Connor Beaudoin was able to reach base on a fielder's choice before advancing to second on a throwing error by the second baseman. In the process, the Eagles were able to get De Los Santos and Joe Grato across the plate to tie things at 3-3. Arcadia was unable to make anything of its bottom half of the inning and the game was ultimately called due to darkness.

ARCADIA AT BAT: Draude finished the day 3 for 3 with one RBI and a double, while Ponente was 1 for 2 with one run scored. Freshman Anthony Zupito was 2 for 3 from the leadoff spot.

EASTERN AT BAT:  Check went 3 for 3 on the day with one RBI, while Grato finished the day 2 for 3 with a double and one run scored.

UP NEXT: The Knights open conference play at Hood on Friday at 3:30 p.m., before finishing the three-game set with a doubleheader at Erny Field starting at noon.
