LANCASTER, Pa. – The Arcadia University baseball team dropped a 7-5 non-conference contest at Franklin & Marshall College Tuesday, dropping its record to 10-6-1 for the season and ending its three-game winning streak. The Diplomats improved to 7-8 with their second straight win.
HOW IT HAPPENED: Junior
Justin Chasmar ripped a two-run homer to right following a leadoff single for classmate
Jordan Draude to give the Knights an early 2-0 lead, but that advantage didn't last long as F&M posted a five-run third to take the lead for good. Luke Seib and Matt Mezansky both came through with a two-run double in the inning. Arcadia pulled back within one in the top of the fifth as freshman
Nick Ponente drove in sophomore
Nick Cardace with a double to left before coming around to score as freshman
Bryan Gillen drove an RBI single back up the middle to cut the deficit to 5-4.
The Diplomats got two much needed runs in the bottom of the eighth, which saw Tyler Daley drive in a run with his triple to the gap in right center field and later scoring on an error. The Knights threatened to come back in the top of the ninth, getting back on the board when junior
Alec Sochacki scored on a wild pitch and putting the game-tying run on base with two down in the inning, but Andrew Mascis was able to get senior
Nick Todero to ground out to first to end the game.
ON THE HILL: Jonathan Pesantez (2-1) picked up the win on the mound for F&M after tossing two scoreless innings of relief. Eric Dyke got the start, but didn't factor in the decision after allowing four runs in 4.1 innings of work. Today was a bullpen day for Arcadia, which used a total of eight arms in the game. Junior
Vincent Ceriale (0-1) took the loss after allowing three runs on two hits and a walk in just a third of an inning.
