Kayla Resh hit a two-out, two-RBI walk off double down the right field line to pick up her first collegiate win, 9-8. The wins move the Knights to 9-7 on the season.
Game 1: Arcadia 7, PSU Abington 3
HOW IT HAPPENED: The Knights picked up the game one win by scoring seven runs on eight hits, and taking advantage of five Nittany Lion errors. After scoring in the top of the first, the visitors held a 1-0 lead heading into the bottom of the third innings. With no outs and runners on second and third, rookie Jackie Billotti sent a double to right to bring home Gunia from second and senior
Sara Boyadjis from third. Two batters later, after Bilotti swiped third, Sophomore
Nicole Iasiello converted a 2-0 pitch into an RBI double.
The Nittany Lions got one back in the top of the fourth on an inside the park home run to left field, but the hosts responded in the bottom half of the frame when senior
Nicki Larro scored on an error by the center fielder. After reaching on the error and advancing to second on the play, freshman Kristen Cancelliere moved to third on a wild pitch before being brought home on a SAC fly from Gunia. The teams went on to exchange runs in the sixth to bring about the 7-3 final score.
ARCADIA AT THE PLATE: Five different Knights recorded hits, led by Bilotti (2-4) and Iasiello (2-3). Billotti drove in a team-best three runs, while Boyadjis crossed the dish a team-high twice. Both of Iasiello's base knocks came as doubles.
PSU ABINGTON AT THE PLATE: The Nittany Lions were led by Greta Sheridan who went 2-3 in the game, driving in all three runs, and scoring one; the center fielder was responsible for the team's inside the park home run in the fourth inning.
IN THE CIRCLE: Gunia picked up the win throwing all seven innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on four hits with two walks and four strikeouts. Jennifer Rakita (2-2) suffered the loss for PSU Abington, surrendering seven runs (two earned) on eight hits while walking three and striking out none.
Game 2: Arcadia 9, PSU Abington 8
HOW IT HAPPENED: A three-run third inning, highlighted by RBI doubles from Gunia and Bilotti and an RBI single from sophomore
Amanda Hess, put the Scarlet and Grey ahead 3-0 following the frame. The Nittany Lions scored all eight of their runs between the fourth and sixth innings, including five in the fifth. Arcadia got two back in the bottom of the sixth, before Resh retired the side in order in the top of the fifth setting the Knights up with a three-run deficit entering the final half inning.
Gunia served as the first base runner of the frame following a one-out single, Bilotti and Hess followed with singles up the middle on 1-1 pitches to load the bases for Iasiello. The power-hitting designated player sent a double deep to center, scoring Gunia and Bilotti to bring the score to 8-7 with one out. Two batters later, with Hess the tying run at third and Iasiello the winning run at second, Resh sent a double down the right field line to plate both runners and claim her first collegiate win.
ARCADIA AT THE PLATE: Gunia (3-4), Bilotti (2-3), Hess (2-4), Iasiello (3-4) and Resh (2-4) all posted multi-hit games as the Knights pounded out 14 hits in the night cap. Iasiello and Resh drove in two runs each; Iasiello, along with Gunia and Billotti, also scored twice. Hess, Cancelliere and freshman
Marissa Giberson each crossed the dish once.
PSU ABINGTON AT THE PLATE: The Nittany Lions scored their eight runs on five hits, while taking advantage of four Arcadia errors. Sheridan led the way with a 2-3 outing, while Amy Worek went 1-3, driving in two and scoring two.
IN THE CIRCLE: Resh's win came in a complete game where she surrendered eight runs (two earned) on five hits with four walks and six strikeouts. Becca Dougherty (1-2) gave up nine runs (six earned) on 14 hits with a walk and a strikeout.
ON THE DAY: Iasiello recorded three doubles as part of her 5-7 night, while driving in three and scoring twice and collecting a team-best eight total bases. Billotti drove in a team-high four on a 4-7 night that included a double and three runs scored. Boyadjis swiped three bases on the day, all in the first game.
UP NEXT: Arcadia hits the road on Thursday when it travels to Cairn for a pair of non-conference games, before going to Lycoming on Saturday for MAC Commonwealth action.
