Softball Opens Season with Pair of Wins, 7-2 Over Lancaster Bible and 14-3 Over Pitt-Greensburg

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 CLERMONT, Fla. – the Arcadia University softball team opened the 2016 season with a pair of wins; first a 7-2 decision over Lancaster Bible, then a 14-3 five-inning win over The University of Pittsburgh – Greensburg.

The Scarlet and Grey found themselves down early as the chargers scored twice in the top of the first inning. After leading off the game with a single, Julia D'Arrigo tallied the first run on a one-out single to center by Kelsey Collins. Collins went on to score two batters later when Morgan Burkholder sent a single down the right field line.
 
Tori Zaccaria got the Knights on the board in the bottom of the third. The sophomore opened the frame with a single to right center, advancing to second on an error. She went on to cross the dish after junior Samantha Quigley reached on an error by the second baseman.
 
Arcadia did most of its damage in the fourth. Quigley reached on a fielder's choice with the bases loaded and one out, allowing senior Erin Wilson and sophomore Amanda Hess to cross the dish. Two batters later, senior Sarah Gunia ripped a two-RBI double scoring Quigley and Zaccaria.
 
Senior Alicia McMahon added a run in the bottom of the fifth, before Gunia knocked in Zaccaria in the sixth to wrap up the scoring.
 
Wilson earned the win as she threw four innings in relief and fanning eight of 12 batters faced.
 
Arcadia 14, Pitt-Greensburg 3
 
The Scarlet and Grey picked up right where they left off, scoring five runs in the first inning. Gunia was the first to cross the plate when a double from McMahon brought her home from second. After Hess was hit by a pitch to load the bases Wilson and sophomore Nicole Isaiello recorded back-to-back RBI singles. Zaccaria plated Hess with a SAC fly, before sophomore Kayee Zarick knocked an RBI single to center to score Isaiello.
 
Arcadia made a statement with a seven-run second inning to run away with the contest.  Gunia scored on after Iasiello reached on a one-out fielder's choice that chased the Bobcats starting pitcher. As the first Knight to see the new pitchers, Zaccaria smacked a two-RBI single to score Hess and Iasiello before Zarick drove in Wilson with a single to left. The Knights tallied six runs with two outs in the inning.
 
Wilson went the distance for her second win of the night as she fanned six batters and allowing three runs.
 
Arcadia returns to the field Tuesday night to take on Thiel and Mount Ida at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. respectively.
