Baseball Splits Twin Bill at Albright, Wins MAC Commonwealth Series 2-1

READING, Pa. – The Arcadia University baseball team split a MAC Commonwealth doubleheader at Albright College Sunday, falling 3-2 in game-one before holding on for a 6-3 win in game-two. The Knights won the three-game conference set 2-1, and now stand at 17-10-1 overall (8-4 MACC) this season. Albright is now 4-18 (1-11 MACC) this season.
 
GAME ONE: Albright 3, Arcadia 2
 
HOW IT HAPPENED: Arcadia got out to a 2-0 lead in the third, which proved to be the only two runs it would score in the game. Sophomore Drew Coisson got on with a single to right and eventually scored on a wild pitch, while senior Nick Todero drew a walk and scored on junior Justin Chasmar's RBI single back up the middle. The Knights had limited chances other than that, with their best chance being in the seventh and final inning as freshman Bryan Gillen singled to lead off the inning and found himself at third with two down in the frame, but Coisson struck out swinging to end the game.
 
Albright tied the game at two after an error led to two runs in the bottom of the fourth, who would have taken the lead in that inning if not for Austin Roth being thrown out at the plate. The Lions took the lead for good in the sixth as Zachary Krause doubled to lead off the inning, and was replaced by Kyle Gantert who crossed the plated on Roth's RBI single to right with the game-winning run.
 
ON THE HILL:  Dylan Price picked up his first win of the season after along just one hit over three innings of relief, improving his record to 1-3. Freshman Zach Manasek suffered his first collegiate loss after allowing one run on three hits over his 2.2 innings of relief.
 
ARCADIA AT BAT: The Knights managed just four hits in the game, with Chasmar going 2 for 3 with a pair of singles and an RBI. Coisson was 1 for 2 with a run scored.
 
ALBRIGHT AT BAT: The Lions totaled six hits in the opener, with Krause going 2 for 3 with a double. Brandon Triantos was 1 for 1 with two walks and scored a run, while Nathan Fretz was 0 for 1 with three free passes and a run scored.
 
GAME TWO: Arcadia 6, Albright 3
 
HOW IT HAPPENED: The two teams exchanged big scoring innings early on, with Arcadia scoring three times in the top of the first and Albright answering with three runs in the bottom of the second. The Knights went ahead for good in the top of the third, with junior Alec Sochacki sending a one-out double down the left field line and scoring on senior George Pagan's RBI single to right. Arcadia padded its lead with two runs in the sixth as senior Steven Zellers scored on an error and Coisson scored from third on freshman Nick Ponente's ground out to first.
 
The Lions had a couple scoring opportunities later in the game, but were unable to push another run across. Junior Christopher Keesser entered the game in the bottom of the fifth with runners on first and third and two away, and get Tyler Keller to strike out swinging to end the threat. Albright put runners on first and second with one away in the seventh, but senior Joseph Warren worked his way out of the jam by striking out Roth and getting Jesse Fiskin to fly out to right to end the game.
 
ON THE HILL: Freshman Joel Bartoni improved to 4-1 for the season after allowing three runs on eight hits over his four innings of work, and Warren picked up his third save of the year after closing the game with two scoreless innings of relief. Albright's Matthew Costa fell to 0-5 for the season after giving up four runs on seven hits over five innings.
 
ARCADIA AT BAT: Pagan and Sochacki accounted for half of the Knights' eight hits in the game. Pagan went 2 for 4 with two RBI, while Sochacki went 2 for 4 with a double, one run scored and anther driven in. Junior Jordan Draude and Ponente were both 1 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored.
 
ALBRIGHT AT BAT: The Lions also had eight hits in the contest. Logan Steidinger was 2 for 3 with a run scored, while Jeff Yordy was 2 for 4 with one RBI. Noah Beebe was 1 for 2 with a walk and an RBI.
 
FOR THE SERIES: Chasmar batted .667 (6-9) in the series with one double, one triple, two RBI and two runs scored, while Zellers was 2 for 3 with a run scored while playing in two of the three games in the set. Arcadia outscored Albright 14-8 in the series, with its' pitching staff posting a 2.05 ERA over the three games. By contrast, the Lions staff had a 4.50 ERA.
