GLENSIDE, Pa. – The Arcadia University men's tennis team dropped a 5-4 MAC Commonwealth decision to visiting Stevenson University Saturday at Weiss Courts. The Mustangs improved to 9-5 overall and 4-0 in conference play to take sole possession of first place in the league standings, while the Knights fell to 7-8 overall and 3-1 in conference play.
The match was decided at No. 4 singles, where Conrad Ellis was a 7-5, 6-3 winner over junior
Wesley Wei to make the team score 5-3 in favor of Stevenson. The battle at No. 1 singles was all that remained after that, which saw freshman
Ishan Kulkarni defeat Bryan Gieselman 6-0 in the second set and 10-6 in the tiebreaker after falling 7-5 in the opener.
Arcadia trialed 2-1 after doubles play as the No. 3 pairing of senior
Alex Colton and junior
Chuck Poklikuha defeated Peter Appiah and Zach Borgerding 8-3. The Mustangs' No. 1 and No. 2 pairing were 8-5 winners.
The first round of singles play saw Poklikuha record a 7-6 (4), 6-0 win over Borgerding at No. 5 and senior
Darren Stochmal shutout Douglas Vaughn 6-0, 6-0 for the Knights, while Stevenson's Troy Derrick notched a 6-3, 6-2 over senior
Vincent Voulo to tie the match 3-3 going to the second round of singles action. Peter Hoblitzell was a 6-3, 6-2 winner over senior
Alex Colton at No. 2 singles, giving Stevenson a 4-3 lead.
The Knights will look to bounce back Tuesday when they travel to Albright College for a MAC Commonwealth match.
