GLENSIDE, Pa. – The Arcadia University softball team hosted conference rival Stevenson Saturday evening on Blankley Field, taking game one 1-0 on a walk-off passed ball, before falling 2-0 in the nightcap. The Knights, in conjunction with the National Fastpitch Coaches Association's StrikeOut Cancer Campaign, played today's games in support of breast cancer awareness, raising $184 from donations made by fans upon admission. The Scarlet and Grey move to 15-15 on the season with a 4-8 conference mark, the Mustangs now sit at 12-18 overall with a 6-6 MAC Commonwealth record.
Game 1: Arcadia 1, Stevenson 0
HOW IT HAPPENED: The day's first game was a defensive battle, as the teams took a scoreless tie into the bottom of the seventh. Freshman
Kayla Resh led off the bottom of the seventh with a walk, before moving to second on a SAC bunt from senior
Alicia McMahon. The next batter, sophomore pinch hitter
Tori Zaccaria, singled up the middle to advance Resh to third. With sophomore
Kaylee Zarick locked in a battle at the plate, Stevenson's Kayla Maggio allowed a passed ball resulting in Resh scoring the winning run.
ARCADIA AT THE PLATE: Resh (2-2) and sophomore
Amanda Hess (2-3) led the Knights' six hit effort at the dish; Zaccaria and rookie
Jackie Bilotti were responsible for the Scarlet and Grey's other hits.
STEVENSON AT THE PLATE: Five different Mustangs recorded hits, highlighted by doubles from Kristen Mueller and Sabrina Gordon.
IN THE CIRCLE: Senior
Erin Wilson (7-6) threw seven innings of scoreless softball, giving up five hits and a strikeout. Brooke Steinbach (4-7) allowed one unearned run on six hits with two walks and two strikeouts.
Game 2: Stevenson 2, Arcadia 0
HOW IT HAPPENED: Runs were at a premium again in game two as the contest went into the top of the sixth in a scoreless tie. Mueller sent a one-out triple to right center to score Tiffany Kahl, before being brought home in the next at-bat on a ground out to shortstop by Emily Soller.
ARCADIA AT THE PLATE: Arcadia recorded five base knocks in the contest, led by a 3-3 performance from Hess; the Mertztown, Pa. native, as well as Bilotti and McMahon, recorded a double in the contest.
STEVENSON AT THE PLATE: The Mustangs had eight base hits in the game, led by Molly Hoyt's 3-3 game and Muller's triple.
IN THE CIRCLE: Jasmyn Ogletree (6-9) picked up the win for Stevenson throwing a complete game allowing no runs on five hits with two walks and a strikeout. Senior
Sarah Gunia (6-4) suffered the loss allowing two runs on eight hits with a pair of strikeouts.
UP NEXT: The Knights host Penn State Brandywine on Tuesday in a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m.
