Softball Picks Up First Conference Win 5-0 Over Lycoming in Game 2, Falls 9-5 in Game 1

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Arcadia University softball team picked up its first conference win, as it split with Lycoming Saturday afternoon taking game two 5-0, after falling 9-5 in the day's opener. The Knights move to 12-8 on the season and 1-5 in conference play, while Lycoming falls to 11-10 and 1-5 in conference play.
 
Game 1: Lycoming 9, Arcadia 5
 
HOW IT HAPPENED: All of Lycoming's offense came in the first three innings, including a five-run output in the bottom of the second. Arcadia got on the board in the top of the third when freshman Marissa Giberson crossed the plate on a fly out to the second baseman. The Scarlet and Grey struck once more in the top of the fourth when sophomore Amanda Hess came home when senior Alicia McMahon reached on a fielder's choice. Trailing 9-5 heading to the seventh, the Knights kept fighting, as sophomore Tori Zaccaria, who was pinch hitting for Giberson, doubled to left field to score classmates Kaylee Zarick and Marissa Mancinelli; senior Sara Boyadjis sent an RBI double in the next at-bat to drive in Arcadia's final run.
 
ARCADIA AT THE PLATE: The Scarlet and Grey recorded eight hits in the game led by Boyadjis and McMahon, who each had two-hit games that included a double. Giberson scored a team-high two runs, while Zaccaria drove in a pair to lead the team.
 
LYCOMING AT THE PLATE: The Warriors recorded eight base knocks led by two-hit performances from Rachael Shady and Elisa Novak. Ashley Schoenstadt scored three runs, while Novak, Shady, Morgan Kunes and Kristi Weaver each drove in a pair.
 
IN THE CIRCLE: Erin Wilson (5-4) suffered the loss, allowing eight runs on six hits with three walks and three strikeouts in two innings of work, freshman Kayla Resh pitched the final four innings allowing one run on two hits with two walks and a strikeout. Shady picked up the win allowing five runs on eight hits with two walks and three strikeouts.
 
Game 2: Arcadia 5, Lycoming 0
 
HOW IT HAPPENED: The Scarlet and Grey spread out its attack, scoring a run in the first, third and fourth innings, before tacking on two more in the seventh. Senior Sarah Gunia scored when sophomore Nicole Iasiello reached on a fielder's choice in the first, and again on a SAC fly from Hess in the second. Freshman Kristen Cancelliere sent an RBI double down the left field line in the fourth scoring Resh. Hess singled up the middle in the seventh to bring home Gunia, before crossing the plate herself on a single down the left field line from McMahon.
 
KNIGHTS AT THE PLATE: The Knights pounded out 13 hits in the night cap. McMahon, Gunia and freshman Jackie Billotti all went 3-4 in the game, with Hess adding a 2-3 outing with a team-high two RBI. Gunia scored a team-high three runs.
 
LYCOMING AT THE PLATE: The Warriors managed just two hits in the game with one coming from Kunes and the other from Ashley Burger.
 
IN THE CIRCLE: Gunia moved to 5-1 allowing just two hits in the shutout, while walking one and fanning two. Weaver took the loss surrendering five runs on 13 hits with a walk and two strikeouts.
