CAMDEN, N.J. – The Arcadia University softball team crossed the Delaware River to take on Rutgers-Camden Thursday afternoon; the Knights took the first game 1-0, before dropping a 7-6 decision in game two. The Scarlet and Grey are now 18-16 on the season, while the Scarlet Raptors sit at 15-15.
Game 1: Arcadia 1, Rutgers-Camden 0
HOW IT HAPPENED: The lone run of the contest came in the second inning, when freshman
Kristin Cancelliere scored on a double steal attempt where sophomore
Tori Zaccaria was caught stealing at second. Cancelliere led off the inning with a walk, before stealing second; Zaccaria singled to left to advance Cancelliere to third.
KNIGHTS AT THE PLATE: Arcadia recorded five hits, one from each Zaccaria, seniors
Sara Boyadjis and
Erin Wilson and sophomores
Marissa Mancinelli and
Nicole Iasiello.
SCARLET RAPTORS AT THE PLATE: The hosts recorded four hits in the game, led by a 2-3 effort from Brittany Scott.
IN THE CIRCLE: Wilson moved to 8-6 on the year throwing a complete game without surrendering a run on four hits with six strikeouts and a walk. Scott also tossed a complete game surrendering a run on five hits with six strikeouts.
Game 2: Rutgers-Camden 7, Arcadia 6
HOW IT HAPPENED: The Scarlet and Grey found themselves in a 2-0 hole after the first inning, but surged back to score six runs between the second and fourth innings. Boyadjis opened the scoring for Arcadia when she singled to center to drive in sophomore
Elissa Zuczek. Freshman
Kayla Resh knotted the game at two in the third when she was driven in on a double down the left field line by sophomore
Amanda Hess; Hess went on to score on a single to right from Cancelliere. A Zuczek single to left that drove in Iasiello put the Knights in front 4-2 after three innings of play. The hosts scored on a solo home run in the bottom of the third before Iasiello sent a single to center to plate Hess and Resh in the top of the fourth.
The score remained 6-3 until the bottom of the seventh when Charlee Greco sent a three-RBI double to right center to tie the game. Abby Merryman plated the winning run with a single down the left field line two batters later.
KNIGHTS AT THE PLATE: The Scarlet and Grey pounded out 12 hits, led by Hess's 3-4 game that included a pair of doubles, an RBI and two runs scored. Boyadjis, Resh, Iasiello and Zuczek all recorded two hits in the game.
SCARLET RAPTORS AT THE PLATE: The hosts recorded seven base hits led by Greco and Jalene Garcia with two hits each. Greco led the way with four RBI, while she and Scott scored twice.
IN THE CIRCLE: Merryman earned the win for Rugters-Camden allowing six runs on 12 hits with seven strikeouts. Resh suffered the loss allowing seven runs (three earned) on seven hits while strikingout five and walking three.
UP NEXT: Arcadia returns home to host Lebanon Valley on Saturday for Senior Day, game one is set for a 4 p.m. first pitch.
