GLENSIDE, Pa. - After being tied at the half, the Arcadia University men's lacrosse team dropped a 10-4 MAC Commonwealth matchup to Messiah College Saturday at Easton Field. The Falcons moved to 8-6 overall and 4-2 in conference play, while the Knights fell to a 3-11 mark and 1-5 in conference contests.
HOW IT HAPPENED: The first period was a close battle, as Messiah scored at the 12:30 mark of the opening frame and Arcadia answered on a man-up goal from freshman Jay Horner with 2:35 left in the period. In the second quarter, freshman Sean Readinger took a feed from senior Chris Jacovino to give the Knights a 2-1 lead but the Falcons quickly answered to with a goal from Isaac Zorn. With 4:02 on the clock, Arcadia sophomore Ryan Green found the back of the net with an assist from Horner to put the Knights up once again, but Justin Bradley scored with under two minutes to go for the 3-3 halftime score.
Messiah would take a 6-3 lead in the third quarter on two goals from Chris Bry and a score from Joseph Franken, holding the Knights scoreless in the quarter and limiting them to only three shots. Arcadia junior Kenny Grant added a goal at the 12:12 mark off a feed from Jacovino to cut the deficit to 6-4, but the Falcons would score four straight for the 10-4 victory.
ARCADIA LEADERS: Horner finished the day with one goal, one assist and one caused turnover, while Readinger had one goal and one forced turnover. Green and Grant finished the day with one goal each. Jacovino picked up two helpers, while junior Joe Stanton added one as well. Junior Casey Fayan scooped up a team-high four ground balls, followed by freshman Nick Ferraro who had three.
MESSIAH LEADERS: Bry finished the day with a team-high three goals, while Franken and Noah Wright each netted two. Zorn finished with one goal, a team-high two assists, and two ground balls. Bradley and Luke Hall rounded out the scorers for Messiah with one goal each. Chris Ruger and Cody Rogers each forced three turnovers, while Dean Patton led the team with eight ground balls.
IN GOAL: Messiah's Sam Stengel moved to 6-5 after allowing four goals and making seven saves. Arcadia sophomore A.J. Beck fell to 2-7 after making 12 saves and allowing 10 goals.
