DOVER, Del. – The Arcadia University softball team posted its second sweep in as many days Sunday, as it downed Wesley 6-3 in 10 innings to open the day, before taking a 3-0 win in the second game. Senior pitcher
Erin Wilson had nine strikeouts in game one, as she set the program record for career strikeouts; she currently has 340. The Scarlet and Grey moved to 22-16 on the season, while the Wolverines fell to 12-20.
Game 1: Arcadia 6, Wesley 3 (10 innings)
HOW IT HAPPENED: The hosts plated a run in the bottom of the first on a wild pitch; that would be the only run until the top of the seventh. Wilson singled to center to open the inning, before classmate
Nicki Larro moved her to second on a sac bunt. Two batters later, fellow senior
Sara Boyadjis sent a single to center to plate Wilson; as scoreless bottom of the seventh sent the game to extras.
Per international tiebreak rules, the batter responsible for the last out of the previous inning was placed on second for each extra frame. Each team plated its placed runner in eight and ninth innings for a 3-3 score heading to the 10th. Sophomore
Marissa Mancinelli served as the lead runner for Arcadia in the top of the 10th, scoring on a single through the left side from senior
Sarah Gunia. A double by freshman
Jackie Bilotti set up a second and third, two-out situation for freshman
Kayla Resh two batters later, the frosh sent a single to left to plate both runners. The Knights' defense held Wesley off the board in the bottom of the frame to seal the victory.
KNIGHTS AT THE PLATE: Multi-hit games from Bilotti (3-4) and Gunia (2-5) fueled an 11-hit outing for the Scarlet and Grey. Boyadjis, Resh, senior
Alicia McMahon, Wilson, Larro and Mancinelli each had one hit in the game.
WOLVERINES AT THE PLATE: The hosts had six hits on the day with Samantha Burns and Nina Marcano combining for five.
IN THE CIRCLE: Wilson picked up her 10th win of the season as she allowed three runs (one earned) on six hits with nine strikeouts and three walks. The Bethlehem, Pa. native struck out Megan DiRubbio swinging to end the ninth to break Jenn Compton's previous strikeout record of 338; Compton played from 2004-07. Lindsay Siok took the loss for Wesley allowing six runs (three earned) on 11 hits with a walk and two strikeouts.

HOW IT HAPPENED: All the scoring came in the second inning with the first four batters reaching safely. Hess singled to right to lead off the inning, before Resh walked and sophomore
Nicole Iasiello singled to the pitcher to load the bases. A McMahon single to center field brought in Hess and Resh; two batters later sophomore
Kaylee Zarick sent a sac fly to center to plate Iasiello.
KNIGHTS AT THE PLATE: The Scarlet and Grey had four hits in the game, highlighted by a 2-3 outing from Hess. McMahon drove in two, while Zarcik plated one.
WOLVERINES AT THE PLATE: Wesley had four hits in the game, each coming from a different player.
IN THE CIRCLE: Gunia moved to 9-4 with her second shutout of the year surrendering four hits with two strikeouts and a walk. Sydney Botsch took the loss allowing three runs on three hits with a walk in five innings of work.
UP NEXT: The Knights wrap up the regular season on Saturday when they travel to Alvernia, game one first pitch set for 1 p.m.
