Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Women’s Volleyball Records First-Ever Victory over Washington (Md.), 3-2

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – The Arcadia University women's volleyball team improved to 5-6 for the season after going on the road and registering a 3-2 win at Washington College (Md.) Monday night. The Shorewomen fell to 6-3 with the loss.

PROGRAM HISTORY: This marks the first-ever victory for the women's volleyball program over Washington. The Shorewomen won each of the previous six meetings, including a 3-0 decision last season in Glenside.

HOW IT HAPPENED: The Knights won the first, third and fifth games by just two points each by scores of 26-14, 25-23 and 15-13. Arcadia came back from a 14-7 deficit in the first game to take a 1-0 lead, and went up 2-1 after a tightly contested third game. The Knights looked to be well on their way to closing out the fifth and deciding game after going up 14-8 before the Shorewomen scored five in a row to pull within one, 14-13. Head coach Eli Porr then called his second timeout in as many points to settle things down and it paid off as junior Sam Dulak ended the match with a kill.

ARCADIA LEADERS: Dulak (11 kills, 14 digs) and freshman Emily Eng (10 kills, 11 digs) both recorded a double-double for the Knights, while freshman Shannon Ryan just missed a double-double of her own with 14 kills and nine digs. Sophomore Brionna Cox added six kills and three blocks. Junior Colleen Stengel totaled a match-high 39 assists and 12 digs, while sophomore Kayla Resh led the Knights with 18 digs.

WASHINGTON LEADERS: Cassie Kowalski led the Shorewomen with a match-high 16 kills and 13 digs, while Lizzie Baden and Alaina Geissberger totaled 11 kills and nine kills, respectively. Taylor Horan handed out 38 assists to go with a match-high 20 digs.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: Arcadia won the match despite being outscored overall 71-65, which was largely due to Washington's 25-15 game-two win. Both teams struggled at times on offense; the Knights hit .150 for the match, while the Shorewomen hit .132.
