SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The Arcadia University field hockey team got on the board first, but was unable to hang onto the lead as it fell in overtime by a score of 2-1 at Swarthmore College Sunday. The Garnet improved to 2-1, while the Knights fell to 0-2.
HOW IT HAPPENED: The Knights got on the board first as freshman
Isabelle Houser scored the first goal of her collegiate career 20 minutes into the match, deflecting a shot from senior
Erin Misner into the left side of the cage. That 1-0 lead held until Jordyn Bell scored 4:14 into the second half to tie the game, and Sierra Spencer netted the game-winner 3:29 into the extra period for the 2-1 final.
IN GOAL: Zelda Bank needed to make just one save to pick up the win in goal for the Garnet, while senior
Brittany Hodson totaled 13 saves in taking the loss for the Knights. Sophomore
Molly Fait added a defensive save late in the second half, stopping a shot off a corner from Spencer with 2:25 left in regulation.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS: Arcadia was outshot 19-3 in the match, managing only one shot per period while Swarthmore had six shots in the first half, 11 in the second and two in OT. Penalty corners also favored the Garnet, 7-2.
