Women’s Basketball Falls 83-71 at Lycoming

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Arcadia University women's basketball team dropped an 83-71 decision at Lycoming Sunday afternoon. The Knights sit at 6-10 on the year and 2-5 in conference play, the Warriors improved to 10-6 and 4-4 in conference play.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED: The Knights led by as many as seven in the opening frame as sophomore Susan Bossler capped a 9-3 run with a three midway through the first quarter for a 13-6 advantage. The hosts responded by closing the frame on a 12-5 run for an 18-18 tie after 10 minutes of play. After seniors Maureen Fiocca and Imani Alston each laid in a bucket to open the second period, the hosts took control with a 17-5 run that opened a 35-27 lead with 4:37 to go until halftime.
 
Lycoming opened a game-high 15 point lead late in the third quarter only to have Arcadia go on a 28-18 run to cut the lead down to five with 59 seconds to go in the fourth quarter. A 12-16 shooting effort from the floor on the offensive end, highlighted by 15 points from Fiocca, while holding the opposition to 6-16 shooting from floor keyed the run. Lycoming went 7-8 from the free throw line over the final 53 seconds to hang on to the win.
 
ARCADIA LEADERS: Fiocca dropped a career-high 29 points on 12-26 shooting, while pulling in six assists. Alston added 13 points on 6-9 shooting while hauling in a team-best eight rebounds and dishing out a team-leading five assists.
 
LYCOMING LEADERS: The Warriors were led by 22 points from Akilah McFadden with Kayla Kline adding 17. Nicole Calella posted a double-double with 14 points and a game-high 11 rebounds, while dishing out a game-best nine assists.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS: The Knights shot 43.9% (29-66) from the floor, including 6-20 (30%) from distance, while going 7-14 (50%) from the charity stripe. Lycoming went 31-66 (47%) from the floor, but just 2-10 (20%) from three, while converting 19—24 (79.2%) from the free throw line. The hosts dominated the paint by outscoring the Knights 50-34 in the post.
