CHESTER, Pa. – The Arcadia University women's basketball team continued MAC Commonwealth play Wednesday night at Widener, falling 78-49 to the host Pride. The Knights are now 6-11 on the season and 2-6 in conference play, the Pride sit at 6-11 overall with a 3-5 conference mark.
HOW IT HAPPENED: The Knights held an early lead as freshman
Courtney Hoffman capped a game-opening 8-5 spurt with a layup just under six minute in. A Devan Rimmer three in response sparked a 14-6 run for Widener that put the Pride ahead by five with 9:06 left until halftime. After sophomore
Sammy Downham converted a layup to pull Arcadia within three, Widener rattled off 12 straight points to take control with a 31-16 lead with 3:39 to go until the break.
The Knights shot 28.5% in the second half, however converted 15-17 free throws, but were unable to pull back within striking distance as the hosts converted 45.7% from the floor over the game's final 20 minutes.
THIEVERY: With a pair of steals, senior
Maureen Fiocca moved into sixth place on the all-time list with 128 career steals. Classmate
Imani Alston's two steal moved her into a tie for ninth all-time with 109 career steals.
ARCADIA LEADERS: Alston led Arcadia with 10 points on 3-6 shooting. Sophomore
Susan Bossler added eight points, while senior
Maureen Fiocca and sophomore
Camille Menns each contributed seven points. Sophomore
Olivia Roseman pulled in a team-leading five rebounds.
WIDENER LEADERS: Rimmer led all scorers with 17 points; she was joined in double figures by Madison Ireland with 13 points with Allison Gallagher, Nikki Perti and Emily Hardy each scored 12. Rimmer also led all players with nine rebounds.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS: The Knights shot 31.3% (15-48) from the field, including 1-6 (16.7%) from distance, while converting 18-23 (78.3%) from the free throw line. The Pride went 29-65 (44.6%) from the floor, including 9-27 (33.3%) from beyond the arc, while making 11 of 13 free throws (84.6%).
