Women’s Volleyball Downs Penn State Harrisburg, Falls to Salisbury in Tri-Match

SALISBURY, Md. – The Arcadia University women's volleyball team split a road tri-match Saturday afternoon taking down Penn State Harrisburg 3-0, before falling to host Salisbury 3-1.
 
FOR THE RECORD:
  • Arcadia moved to 18-10 on the year
  • The Nittany Lions are 9-15, including a 3-0 loss to Salisbury today
  • The Seagulls now sit at 17-8
SET SCORES:
  • Arcadia 3, PSU-Harrisburg 0: 25-11, 25-18, 25-22
  • Salisbury 3, Arcadia 1: 25-11, 25-23, 13-25, 15-19
HOW IT HAPPENED – PSU-HARRISBURG:
  • The Knights used long runs to cruise to a first set victory
  • Trailing by one early in the second set, Arcadia rattled off seven straight points to take control with a 13-7 lead.
  • After getting off to a hot start in the third set, the Knights staved off a late comeback attempt from the Nittany Lions to seal the win
INSIDE THE NUMBERS PSU-HARRISBURG:
  • The Scarlet and Grey hit 29.6% as a team, totaling 51 points on 31 kills, 16 aces and four blocks
  • The Nittany Lions scored 33 points on 25 kills with two aces and six blocks
  • Sophomore Shannon Ryan led all players with eight kills, along with a team-leading three block assists
  • Junior Kayla Resh tallied a match-high four service aces; she led all players with nine digs
  • Freshman Julia Paliwodzinski dished out 26 assists to lead all players
HOW IT HAPPENED – SALISBURY:
  • The Scarlet and Grey took control of the third set using an 12-1 spurt to increase its lead from 11-10 to 23-11
  • The hosts caught momentum in the first and fourth sets to jump out to early leads, while narrowly taking a back-and-forth second set.
  • The Knights led by as many as four in the second set
INSIDE THE NUMBERS – SALISBURY
  • Ryan, junior Lizzie Joseph and freshman Maddie Serht led the Knights' attack with nine kills each
  • Paliwodzinski led all players with 34 assists on the offensive end, and chipped in 14 digs defensively
  • Sophomore Emily Eng led the match with 21 digs
  • Freshman Miranda Baronett totaled three aces, while three other players recorded two
  • The Knights totaled 53 points on 38 kills with nine aces and six blocks
  • Salisbury scored 57 points on 39 kills, 10 aces and eight blocks
NOTES:
  • Eng moved into third place on Arcadia's all-time digs list, she sits at 828
  • Eng moved into second on the single-season digs list with 421, she sits 64 behind Jean Popp for first

  • The Knights host Moravian on Tuesday night, before finishing MAC Commonwealth play against Widener on Thursday
