Women’s Volleyball Sweeps Tri-Match to Close Regular Season

UNION, N.J. – The Arcadia University women's volleyball team downed The City College New York (CCNY) 3-0 and Kean 3-1 Saturday afternoon in tri-match action. The matches were the final regular season contests of the year.
 
FOR THE RECORD:
  • The Knights improved their program record win total to 22 to finish the regular season 22-10
  • The Beavers moved to 5-10
  • The Cougars fell to 26-10
SET SCORES:
  • CCNY: 25-8, 25-21, 25-13
  • Kean: 18-25, 25-22, 25-17, 25-19
HOW IT HAPPENED - CCNY:
  • The Knights were dominant in the opening set, breaking it open with an eight-point run behind the serve of sophomore Mackenzie Hale to take a an 18-4 lead.
  • Arcadia jumped out early in the second set, and never trailed as it withstood a Beaver comeback attempt
  • Another early run set up Arcadia for success in the third set.  With the score 17-13, and sophomore Emily Eng on serve, the Knights scored the match's final eight points. Freshman Lauren Enfield ended the match with a kill.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE – CCNY:
  • Arcadia scored 53 points on 42 kills, eight aces and three blocks
  • Enfield led all players with 10 kills
  • Freshman Julia Paliwodzinski handed out 22 assists, followed by senior Colleen Stengel with 13
  • Hale led the team with five aces and 10 digs
  • Eng registered nine digs
HOW IT HAPPENED - KEAN
  • The start to the first set was evenly contested before the hosts used a long run to set up the game win.
  • After another tight start in the second set, Arcadia used quick six-point spurt to jump ahead 17-13 and never looked back.
  • After the Cougars tied the third set at seven, the Knights took and then methodically increased its lead to as many as eight.
  • Arcadia jumped out early in the fourth set with seven of the first 10 points. The Knights led by as many as seven before freshman Allison Elechko ended the match with a kill.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE – KEAN:
  • The Knights scored 65 points on 52 kills with six aces and seven blocks
  • Junior Lizzie Joseph totaled a match-leading 12 kills, followed by Elechko with 11
  • Paliwodzinski handed out 38 assists
  • Junior Katie Wilson posted four block assists
  • Three players registered double-digit digs, led by Eng's 18; Paliwodzinski and Enfield each had 12
NOTES:
  • The Knights conclude the regular season with the best record in program history
  • Wilson and classmate Becca Campf are tied for third place all-time with 86 career block assists; the duo is also tied for 7th all-time with 126 career blocks
  • Joseph moved into 4th on the single-season kills list with 253 this season
  • Wilson moved into fourth on the single-season block assist list with 41
PLAYOFF PICTURE:
  • The second-seeded Knights will host its first-ever MAC Commonwealth Championship game against third-seeded Lebanon Valley Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
