Women’s Volleyball Dominates Alvernia in 3-0 Win

READING, Pa. – The Arcadia University women's volleyball team got back in the win column Wednesday night, as it took down Alvernia 3-0 in MAC Commonwealth action.
 
FOR THE RECORD: The Knights improved to 12-7 on the year and 4-1 in conference play. The Golden Wolves dropped to 12-6 overall and 3-2 in the MAC Commonwealth.
 
ARCADIA 3, ALVERNIA 0 (25-15, 25-17, 25-19)
HOW IT HAPPENED: The teams exchanged the first nine points of the opening set, before the Knights took control with an 11-2 run to take a 15-6 lead. Junior Becca Campf sealed the first set win with a kill off a set from senior Colleen Stengel. After jumping out to a quick 4-0 lead in the second set, highlighted by three Shannon Ryan kills, Arcadia used short spurts of offense to pace its 25-17 set win. The Scarlet and Grey jumped out to an 11-5 lead to open the third set. The Golden Wolves attempted an early comeback, but it was squashed when the Knights went on 5-1 spurt to claim a 16-10 advantage. Junior Katie Wilson recorded the match's final point on a kill.
 
MOVING UP THE RANKS: With a match-high 34 assists, Stengel moved into fourth place in program history. She currently has 1,069 career assists.
 
ARCADIA LEADERS: Ryan powered the attack with 16 kills while hitting 32.4%; freshman Lauren Enfield added nine kills while hitting 47.4%. Campf led the way at the net with four total blocks. On the defensive end, sophomore Emily Eng totaled 15 digs.
 
ALVERNIA LEADERS: Kristen Sipling led the Golden Wolves with 12 kills, while Abby O'Donnell handed out 24 assists. On the defensive end, Aubrey Gruell-Keating posted nine digs.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS: Arcadia hit 36.6% as a team, while scoring 55 points on 43 kills, six aces and six blocks. The Golden Wolves hit just 13.4% as a team, as they scored 33 points on 29 kills, three aces and one block.
