63-Point Second Half Fuels Men’s Basketball’s Third Straight Win, Knights Down Lewis & Clark 89-71

HONOLULU, Hawaii – The Arcadia University men's basketball team picked up its third straight win Friday, as it took down Lewis & Clark 89-71 in the Hoops in Hawaii Thanksgiving Classic. Arcadia trailed by as many as 12 in the first half before a 20-0 run early in the second half set the tone for what proved to be a 63-point second half.
 
ON THE RECORD:
  • The Knights are now 3-1 on the year
  • The Pioneers sit at 1-2
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Lewis & Clark used the three ball to open the game on a 20-10 run over the first 10 minutes.
  • Led by nine points from junior Phil Pierfy, the Scarlet and Grey cut the deficit from as many as 12 to seven at the break. Arcadia went 7-14 from the floor to close out the first half and forced five Pioneer turnovers.
  • A 6-9 shooting performance to open the second half further slashed Lewis & Clark's lead to two just over five minutes in.
  • Junior Josh Scott laid in the bucket that pulled Arcadia within a pair, and sparked a 20-0 run over the next 5:13. Pierfy put Arcadia in front for the first time with a three, before senior Brandon Thompson deposited back-to-back threes for a 48-41 lead. Freshman Da'Kquan Davis netted the fourth three of the spurt to make the lead 57-41 with 9:43 to go.
  • Arcadia led by as many as 19 on two separate occasions, and went on to score nine of the game's final 12 points.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • As a team, the Knights shot 54.5% (36-66) from the floor, including 9-14 (47.4%) from beyond the arc, while converting 8-10 (80%) at the charity stripe.
  • Pierfy led all scorers with 29 points on 11-13 shooting from the field, including 3-4 from distance, and a perfect 4-4 at the line. Davis (19), Scott (14) and Thompson (11) all joined Pierfy in double figures.
  • On the glass, Arcadia nearly doubled-up the opposition, outrebounding the Pioneers 47-25. Scott hauled in a game-best nine boards.
  • Arcadia's second half dominance was fueled by a 72.2% (26-36) shooting effort from the floor. Pierfy was a perfect 7-7 shooting, 2-2 from beyond the arc and 2-2 at the free throw line over the final 20 minutes of play. Davis scored 15 points in the second half, while Scott added 12.
  • Lewis & Clark shot 41.7% (25-60) as a team on the night, including 7-32 (21.9%) from three, while converting 14-22 (63.6%) at the free throw line.
NOTES:
  • Pierfy's 29 points are a new career-high, besting his 26-point outing against Lycoming last February.
  • Scott set a new season-best with his nine rebounds.
  • This marks Arcadia's first three-game winning streak since claiming four in a row last December.
