CAMDEN, N.J. – The Arcadia University women's basketball team took down the Rutgers-Camden Raptors in comeback fashion Tuesday night, 62-60. Sophomore
Taylor Dunn netted the final five points of the night, including the go-ahead free throws with 7.7 seconds left.
FOR THE RECORD:
- Arcadia improved to 4-5 on the campaign.
- Rutgers-Camden dropped to 6-5 on the year.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Knights chipped away at the Raptor's 10-point lead during the final six minutes of the first frame with a 10-5 run to close the gap to six points. Over that span, the Scarlet and Grey saw Dunn and classmate Jamie Manzo net four points apiece.
- During the second quarter, the Knights went back and forth with the Raptors. At the four-minute mark, freshman Kylie Fischer sparked a 6-0 run scoring four over that span to cut the deficit to four. Rutgers-Camden answered by ending the half on its own run, leaving itself up 38-26.
- Heading into the third period, the Knights overcame a 14-point Raptor lead, outscoring the host 21-7 in the frame. Over that span, Arcadia shot 80% from the floor with five different players scoring a point. Dunn's go-ahead three came with 3:20 left in the quarter and the Knights would take a 47-45 lead into the final stanza.
- The Knights extended their lead to as high as five, but the Raptors came clawing back to take a lead with 6:30 left in the game. The teams would exchange a pair of baskets before a shot by sophomore Courtney Hoffman would tie the game back up at 55 with 4:49 remaining.
- During the final 3:53, the Raptors fought ahead by three points until Dunn drove the lane and converted an and one opportunity to tie the game at 60 with 1:21 left.
- The teams exchanged a pair of timeouts before Dunn would go to the charity stripe, converting both attempts to give the Knights a two-point lead with 7.7 seconds left. On the game's final possession, the Raptors got off a desperation shot that didn't fall, giving the Knights the 62-60 victory.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:
- The Knights had two players in double digits, seeing Dunn (18) and Manzo (17) finished as the game's top two scorers.
- On the glass, the Knights outrebounded the Raptors 45-37. Paving the way was sophomore Sydney Cyr (13) and junior Camille Menns (11). Cyr and Menns were the games top two rebounders.
- The team was nearly perfect from the line, shooting 12-of-13.
- Arcadia capitalized off turnovers, scoring 20 points from the Raptor's 13 giveaways.
GAME NOTES:
- Manzo's 17 points mark a career high for the sophomore, besting her previous high of 10 points against Stevenson. The Marlton, N.J. native shot 8-of-11 from the floor.
- Dunn's 18 points makes this her third consecutive game scoring in double figures.
- The win snaps the Knights three-game losing streak.
