Pierfy’s 17 Points Leads Knights Past Salisbury for Third-Straight Win

GLENSIDE, Pa. – The Arcadia University men's basketball team picked up its third-straight victory Saturday afternoon, this time over the Salisbury Seagulls, 72-64. Leading all scorers was junior Phil Pierfy with 17 points.
 
FOR THE RECORD:
  • The Knights advanced to 6-5 on the season.
  • Salisbury moved to 5-3.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Late in the first half, the Scarlet & Grey battled back from a six-point deficit with a 13-5 run over the last 4:42 seconds of the frame to take the lead 32-31 to the break. Over the run, junior Josh Scott dropped six points, while Pierfy contributed five, including two free throws that would tie and then take the lead.
  • Arcadia was fast out of the gate to start the second frame, taking a 12-4 run over the first 3:36 seconds of the half. Four players contributed points during that span to grow the Knights' lead to 44-35. After some pushback from the Seagulls to cut the Knights' lead to one, Arcadia would solidify the victory with an impressive 16-7 run over the final 5:02 of the game. The Knights went 6-of-10 from the floor to end the night, while converting 7-of-12 at the line. 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • Freshman Da'Kquan Davis corralled a game-high 10 rebounds.
  • Also netting double digits was junior Evan Slone. Slone dropped 16 points, including eight in the game-ending run, on 6-of-8 shooting from the floor.
  • Arcadia played a physical game, forcing the Seagulls into foul trouble. Salisbury was called for 28 personal fouls on the game.
GAME NOTES:
  • The Knights are currently riding a three-game win streak as they head into the holiday break.
  • With his eight points, senior Brandon Thompson surpassed the 1,000 career points mark with 1,004. Before playing for the Knights, the Philadelphia, Pa. native spent a season at Valley Forge Military College where he scored 473 points.
UP NEXT:
  • Arcadia will have a two-week break from game action and will be back on the hardwood to wrap up 2017 on Saturday December 30. The Knights will wrap up non-conference play with an 3 p.m. tip against Rosemont.
