GLENSIDE, Pa. – The Arcadia University men's lacrosse team fell to visiting Swarthmore College by a final count of 8-5 on a chilly Wednesday night at Jean Lenox West Field.
FOR THE RECORD: The Garnet improved to 5-2 with their third consecutive win. The Knights fell to 1-5 on the year with the loss.
HOW IT HAPPENED: This was a close contest from start to finish, with neither team leading by more than two until the fourth quarter. The Knights led 3-2 at the end of the first following goals from freshmen
Austin Williams and
Clo Muscara, but Swarthmore answered by scoring all three second quarter goals to go up 5-3 at the half. Jake Ross tied the game just over two minutes into the frame, and Dylan Rittenhouse put the Garent out in front for good two minutes later.
Arcadia scored two of the three goals in the third quarter to make it a one-goal game going into the fourth. Sophomore
Nick Ferraro's fourth goal of the year cut the Knights' deficit to 5-4, while Muscara's third tally of the game made it 6-5. That was as close as Arcadia would get the rest of the way as Swarthmore players accounted for the only two goals of the fourth quarter for the 8-5 final.
ARCADIA LEADERS: Muscara (three goals) and Williams (one goal, two assists) finished with three points each for the Knights; Williams also had three groundballs and caused two turnovers. Freshman
Josh Keitz led the team with five groundballs.
SWARTHMORE LEADERS: Cam Marsh scored three goals and assisted on another for a game-high four points, while Rittenhouse finished with one goal and two assists. Stephen Ducey won 10 fo 15 faceoffs and picked up a game-high six groundballs.
IN GOAL: Cole Fox stopped six of the 11 shots on goal he faced to earn the win in goal for the Garnet. Sophomore
Danny Lipkin registered 16 saves while taking the loss for the Knights.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS: Swarthmore outshot Arcadia 39-18 in the game, while the Knights held a 32-29 edge on groundballs. The Garnet won 10 of 16 faceoffs in the game. The two teams were a combined 0-7 with the extra man.
