Ferraro’s Five Goals Leads Men’s Lacrosse to 11-9 Win over FDU-Florham

GLENSIDE, Pa. – Sophomore Nick Ferraro found the back of the net five times to lead the Arcadia University men's lacrosse team to an 11-9 win over FDU-Florham Sunday afternoon on Jean Lenox West Field. The win moved the Knights to 2-5 on the season, while the Devils fell to 4-4.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED: The Knights wasted little time, jumping out to a 2-0 lead in the first 3:15 of the first quarter. Ferraro opened the scoring with an unassisted effort just over a minute and a half in, before freshman Austin Williams met twine less than two minutes later. Following back-to-back Devil goals, Ferraro pumped in two more in short order, before assisting on a man-up goal from senior Joe Stanton to close the first quarter scoring with Arcadia ahead 5-2.
 
The visitors rallied in the second quarter, netting four straight, including two from Alec Orazietti, to take a 6-5 lead with 5:08 left until the half. The Knights would take a 6-5 lead to the half however, as Williams buried a feed from classmate Tanner Pajakinas with four seconds left in the second quarter.
 
Two more goals from Ferraro opened the third stanza to lift the Knights to an 8-6 lead less than four minutes in, before the teams alternated goals the rest of the way.
 
ARCADIA LEADERS: Ferraro led all players with six points on five goals and an assist. Williams found the back of the net three times, while classmate Clo Muscara scored twice.
 
FDU-FLORHAM LEADERS: Orazietti led the Devils with three goals, with Pat Stewart netting a pair. John Belanger and John Guido each registered a goal and an assist.
 
IN GOAL: Sophomore Danny Lipkin (2-5) made seven saves in the win for Arcadia. Tom Tornetto (4-3) took the loss for the Devils, while making 14 saves.
 
MAKING HISTORY: Ferraro's five goals matches the single-game program record. John Caruso was the first to accomplish the feat in 2014 against Bryn Athyn, with the last occurrence coming from Jay Horner last season at Wesley. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: The Knights held a 37-26 advantage in shots, including 25-16 in shots on goal. Arcadia was 2-4 on extra-man opportunities, while killing off both Devil extra-man opportunities. A 39-22 margin in ground balls helped the Knights control possession.
