Baseball Splits Twin Bill with Lebanon Valley to Open Conference Series

PHILADELPHIA – The Arcadia University baseball team, which is receiving votes in this week's D3Baseball.com/NCBWA Poll, split a MAC Commonwealth doubleheader with Lebanon Valley College Sunday at La Salle University's DeVincent Field, rallying for a 6-5 win in game-one before falling in game-two 10-5. The deciding third game in the series is set for tomorrow afternoon in Annville.

FOR THE RECORD: The Knights' record now stands at 13-4 overall and 4-1 in MAC Commonwealth play. The Dutchmen are now 9-6 overall and 3-2 in conference play.

GAME ONE: ARCADIA 6, LEBANON VALLEY 5

HOW IT HAPPENED: The Dutchmen jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first before the Knights battled back with one run in the second and two in the third to tie the game at 3-3. Junior Drew Coisson's RBI-single to center in the second got Arcadia on the board, and senior Justin Chasmar's RBI-double down the right field line tied the game after sophomore Luke Hohenstein beat out a play at the plate on freshman Phil Pierfy's grounder to third base. Both teams scored a pair of runs in the fifth to make it a 5-5 ballgame before senior Jordan Draude drove in Coisson from second with a single to right with the game-winning run.

ON THE HILL: Sophomore Joel Bartoni improved to 2-0 after allowing five runs on nine hits over his six innings of work, while senior Chris Keesser kept the Dutchmen off the board in the seventh to earn his fourth save of the season. Michael Houseal fell to 0-2 after giving up six runs (two earned) on seven hits in the complete-game loss.

ARCADIA AT BAT: Chasmar was 2 for 3 with a double, two runs scored and two RBI in the game, while Coisson finished 1 for 2 with a walk, and RBI and a run scored. Draude and Pierfy were 1 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored.

LEBANON VALLEY AT BAT: Joshua Marcelli was 2 for 3 with a double, two runs scored and another driven in, while Marshall Kiessling was 2 for 4 and scored a pair of runs. Nick O'Shea was 1 for 3 with a double and two RBI.

GAME TWO: LEBANON VALLEY 10, ARCADIA 5

HOW IT HAPPENED: The Knights scored three times in the bottom of the third to take a 3-1 lead, scoring runs on RBI singles from sophomore Nick Ponente and Hohenstein, and Draude's ground out that plated sophomore Bryan Gillen from third. That lead was down to 3-2 going to the top of the fifth, where Lebanon Valley scored eight runs on seven hits and the assistance of two Arcadia errors to take a 10-3 lead. The Knights got two runs back in the bottom of the frame, but were unable to complete the comeback attempt.
