GLENSIDE, Pa. – Freshman
Kylee Schwind and sophomore
Kayla Resh combined for a no-hitter in an 8-0, six-inning win in game one over Penn State Abington Thursday night on Blankley Field. The Knights finished the sweep with an 8-3 win in game two. The Scarlet and Grey improved to 12-4 on the season, while the Nittany Lions fell to 4-6.
GAME 1: ARCADIA 8, PENN STATE ABINGTON 0 (6 INNINGS)
HOW IT HAPPENED: After two scoreless innings to open the game, junior
Amanda Hess sent a single to right center to score sophomore
Jackie Bilotti. Three more runs crossed the plate in the bottom of the fourth, beginning with an RBI double from freshman
Bekah Good to center field to score junior
Nicole Iasiello. Two batters later, freshman
Ashley Eckett sent a 2-0 pitch through the right side for a single to score Good from third. After Eckett stole second, she scored on a single to left from Bilotti.
Freshman
Tori Zangrilli sent a one-out double to left field in the bottom of the fifth to score Hess from second and move Iasiello from first to third. In the next at-bat, Good plated Iasiello with a SAC fly to left field. Freshman
Mary Pat Murray ended the game by sending a 3-2 pitch to right field for a single that plated Hess from third.
ARCADIA AT THE PLATE: Bilotti led the Knights' offense, going 4-4 at the plate with two RBI and a run scored. Hess and Iasiello each recorded two hits and scored two runs, while Zangrilli drove in two runs.
IN THE CIRCLE: Schwind (6-2) picked up the win, throwing five innings while walking three and striking out six. Resh threw the last inning with one strikeout. Emily Wrenn (2-2) took the loss, allowing eight runs on 12 hits with a walk and no strikeouts.
CHASING HISTORY: With her first of two steals in the game, Bilotti moved into sole possession of fourth place on the all-time list. She currently sits at 29 career steals.
GAME 2: ARCADIA 8, PENN STATE ABINGTON 3
HOW IT HAPPENED: Each team scored its first run courtesy of an error by the second baseman in the first inning. After Bilotti scored on an error to open the bottom of the first, Iasiello took a 1-0 pitch deep to right center field for an RBI triple. The junior scored in the next at-bat when Zangrilli doubled to right center. Two batters later, Good singled to left to plate Zangrilli.
With a 5-1 lead in the bottom of the fifth, the Scarlet and Grey put up three more runs. Murray sent a hard-hit double down the left field with one out to score Eckett from second. Three batters later, freshman
Julia Gessner singled to center to bring home Murray from third and Hess from second.
Following a scoreless sixth, the Nittany Lions scored two in the top of the seventh first on a RBI double to left center from Sam Goetz, before Goetz scored on a groundout to second by Sam Friend.
ARCADIA AT THE PLATE: Good led the way with two hits in the game, including a triple, while driving in one and scoring one. Iasiello's lone hit was an triple, while Murray and Zangrilli each recorded a double.
PENN STATE ABINGTON AT THE PLATE: Becca Dougherty went 2-3 to led athe Nittany Lions, including a double. Dougherty, Breanna Lineman and Friend all drove in a run.
IN THE CIRCLE: Murray (4-1) got the win in the circle allowing three runs (two earned) on seven hits with a walk and seven strikeouts. Dougherty took the loss for the Nittany Lions, allowing eight runs (six earned) on eight hits with one strikeout.
