PHILADELPHIA – Senior
Justin Chasmar's solo homer in the bottom of the sixth completed a 3-2 come-from-behind game-two victory for the Arcadia University baseball team after the Knights suffered a 4-3 extra-inning loss in the opener of a MAC Commonwealth doubleheader against visiting Widener at Erny Field Saturday. Arcadia won the season series with the Pride 2-1, and is in sole possession of second place in the conference standings following today's action.
FOR THE RECORD: The Knights are now 22-8 for the season and 11-4 in conference play after splitting today's games. Widener's record is now 20-9 overall and 10-5 in league play. The Pride's game-one win halted Arcadia's seven-game winning streak.

PLAYOFF RACE: The Knights need just one more conference win, or one more conference loss from Stevenson to secure a spot in the upcoming MAC Commonwealth Championship Tournament. Arcadia is now one game back of conference-leading Alvernia. The Knights will end the regular season with a three-game set against the Crusaders the could determine the top-seed for the conference playoffs.
GAME TWO: Arcadia 3, WIDENER 2
HOW IT HAPPENED: The Pride scored their only two runs in the top of the first, with Greg McDonough scoring on a wild pitch and Mike Elfreth heading home on Stephen DeBellis' single down the left field line. The Knights drew even with two runs in the bottom of the fifth. Junior
Drew Coisson got things going by legging out a triple to left before scoring on sophomore
Bryan Gillen's double down the left field line, and Gillen would later score from third on a double-steal to tie the game. That set the stage for Chasmar to drive an 0-1 pitch over the right field fence to lead off the sixth for the 3-2 final.
ON THE HILL: Arcadia's bullpen combined to all just two hits and three walks over six innings. Freshman
Mitch Blake picked up his first career win after yielding one hit over his 1.2 innings of work, while junior
Ryan Ulrich picked up the save after recording three quick outs in the seventh. Freshman
Tyler Showers allowed just one hit in his 3.1 innings of work. Joey Zettlemoyer took the loss after giving up three runs on three hits and a walk over his two innings of relief work.
ARCADIA AT BAT: Gillen went 2 for 3 with a double, and RBI and a run scored from the leadoff spot in the order, while Chasmar was 1 for 3 with a solo home run. Coisson was 1 for 2 with a triple and a run scored.
WIDNER AT BAT: Elfreth and McDonough both scored after drawing a walk and were held hitless in their two at-bats. DeBellis was 1 for 3 with an RBI.
GAME ONE: WIDENER 4, ARCADIA 3 (10 INNINGS)
HOW IT HAPPENED: The Knights struck first on a two out single up the middle from sophomore
Luke Hohenstein in the bottom of the third inning. A two-run home run in the top of the fourth from Justin Healey vaulted Widener to a 2-1 lead, which would bump to 3-1 when Kyle Lowery scored on a wild pitch in the top of the seventh.
Arcadia answered in the bottom of the seventh, plating a pair of runs to force extras. Senior
Bryan Gillen fought to a full count with runners on the corners and one out before singling to right field to plate sophomore
Sean Carew from third and move junior Drew Coission to third. The next batter, Hohenstein doubled to left center to score Coisson and tie the game at three.
Both teams had chances to go ahead in the eighth and ninth before Healey led off the top of the 10th with a solo home run that proved to be the difference. Freshman
Phil Pierfy nearly tied the game in the bottom of the 10th, just barely pulling the ball to the left of the left field foul pole before grounding out to third. The Knights got the potential game-winning run to second in the eighth and third in the ninth, but were unable to get the runner home.
ON THE HILL: Sophomore
Joel Bartoni got the start for Arcadia allowing two runs on two hits with three walks and four strikeouts in four innings of work. Sophomore Zack Manasek (1-1) took the loss, allowing one run on three hits with a walk and three strikeouts in three innings of work.
