Game Two Rally Falls Short as Softball Falls at Lebanon Valley

ANNVILLE, Pa. – A seventh inning rally fell just short for the Arcadia University softball team, as it fell 7-6 in game two of a doubleheader at Lebanon Valley after dropping the opener 4-3 in nine innings. The Knights fell to 18-10 on the season and 6-6 in conference play, while the Dutchmen improved to 22-10 overall and 9-5 in the MAC Commonwealth.

GAME ONE: LEBANON VALLEY 4, ARCADIA 3 (9 INNINGS)
HOW IT HAPPENED: The game's first three runs came courtesy of the long ball. Haley Christensen sent a solo shot to left center with two outs in the bottom of the second, before sophomore Jackie Bilotti launched a two-run bomb over the center field fence on a two-out, 3-2 pitch in the top of the third.  The Dutchmen tied the game at two in the bottom of the frame when Sammy Bost singled to shortstop before advancing to third on an error by the first baseman that allowed Cheyanne Brown, who began the play at first, to score.

An error by Lebanon Valley's right fielder allowed Bilotti to score in the top of the fifth to put Arcadia back in front by one, before Annie McClain came home on a sac fly foul out from Lexi Windsor in the bottom of the sixth. The 3-3 tie stood until the bottom of the ninth, when the game-winning run crossed the plate on a bunt single to third by Christensen.

ARCADIA AT THE PLATE: Bilotti led the Knights with a 2-4 outing, including a home run, two RBI and two runs scored. Hess, sophomore Kristin Cancelliere and freshman Tori Zangrilli recorded one hit each.

LEBANON VALLEY AT THE PLATE: Christensen led the Dutchmen with a 2-4 game, including a home run, two RBI and a run scored. Bost, McClain, Windsor and Elaine Gross record one hit each.

GAME 2: LEBANON VALLEY 7, ARCADIA 6
HOW IT HAPPENED: After plating one in the bottom of the second, the hosts used a four-run third inning to take control. The frame's first run came on a bases loaded ground out by Christensen, before Kate Whelski sent a three-run home run over the wall in left center. Lebanon Valley went on to score a run in each the fourth and sixth innings.

The Knights fought back in the bottom of the seventh, scoring six runs with two outs. Cancelliere drove in Arcadia's first two runs on a double to right center, before scoring when Hess reached on an error by the first baseman one batter later. With the bases loaded following a single up the middle from freshman Mary Pat Murray and a walk from Zangrilli, freshman Sara Shelton reached on an error by the right fielder that allowed Hess to score from third and Murray to come home from second. Freshman Julia Gessner reached on an error in the next at-bat to allow Zangrilli to score the final run.

ARCADIA AT THE PLATE: Murray led the Knights with two hits in the game, while Bilotti, Cancelliere, Hess, Gessner and junior Nicole Iasiello each had one. Cancelliere drove in two runs.
