Softball Sweeps Muhlenberg in Non-Conference Play

GLENSIDE, Pa. – The Arcadia University softball team recorded its second sweep in as many days Monday night, downing Muhlenberg 8-0 in six innings in game one and 5-4 in game two in non-conference action on Blankley Field. The Knights improved to 22-10 on the season, while the Mules fell to 12-22.

GAME 1: ARCADIA 8, MUHLENBERG 0 (6 INNINGS)
HOW IT HAPPENED: The Scarlet and Grey jumped out to a 3-0 lead with just one swing of the bat in the bottom of the second inning as sophomore Jackie Bilotti sent a bases-loaded, two-out pitch deep to left field for a base-clearing double.  That margin would quickly extend to 5-0 in the bottom of the third as freshman Julia Gessner singled to left to score junior Amanda Hess from third one batter before classmate Bekah Good singled down the right field line to bring home freshman Mary Pat Murray.

Bilotti sent a one-out triple to left center in the bottom of the fourth inning, before scoring on a single to right field from classmate Kristin Cancelliere for a 6-0 Arcadia lead. The Knights finished the game off with two runs in the bottom of the sixth. Two batters after Cancelliere sent a one-out double to center field she scored on a double down the right field line by Murray. Freshman Tori Zangrilli and Gessner walked in the next two at-bats to move Murray to third, before Good plated her with the game-winning single.

ARCADIA AT THE PLATE: Murray led the Knights with a 3-4 game, including two doubles, an RBI and two runs scored. Bilotti, Cancelliere and Good each recorded two hits; Bilotti also had a game-high three RBI while Good drove in two runs.

MUHLENBERG AT THE PLATE: Allyson Sweeney and Sarah Siclari each had a hit for the Mules.

IN THE CIRCLE: Freshman Kylee Schwind moved to 11-6 on the season, throwing six shutout innings while allowing two hits with two walks and a strikeout. GAME 2: ARCADIA 5, MUHLENBERG 4
HOW IT HAPPENED: The visitors struck first in the nightcap when Hayley Peterson singled through the left side with two outs in the top of the second to bring Amelia Shelley home from second. Arcadia would get that run back and then some in the bottom of the third. With runners on second and third and no outs in the frame, Hess doubled down the left field line to plate Bilotti from third before a single through the left side by Murray in the next at-bat scored Cancelliere to give the Knights a 2-1 lead. Gessner singled two batters later to score Murray and Hess.

Courtney Simon was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the top of the fifth to bring home a run for the Mules, before Shelley singled up the middle in the next at-bat to bring in Hanna Caiola for the team's third run.

The difference maker came with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning when Cancelliere sent the first pitch she saw down the left field line to plate Good from third. Muhlenberg scored once in the top of the seventh on an RBI triple from Simon before Shelley grounded out the third to end the game.
