READING, Pa. – The Arcadia University softball team clinched the fourth seed in next week's MAC Commonwealth Championship with a 6-0 game one win at Albright Saturday afternoon. The Knights went on to take the second game 7-0. Arcadia improved to 24-10 on the season and 10-6 in the MAC Commonwealth, while the Lions fell to 15-19 on the season and 6-10 in conference play.
GAME 1: ARCADIA 6, ALBRIGHT 0
HOW IT HAPPENED: The offense was working early for Arcadia as it scored all six of its runs in the first three innings. Junior
Amanda Hess got the scoring started with an RBI single through the right side to bring home sophomore
Jackie Bilotti from third; Bilotti led off the game with a double down the right field line before moving to third on a passed ball. The frame's next three runs came with two outs as freshman
Julia Gessner doubled to left field to plate Hess two batters before junior
Kaylee Zarick poked a two-RBI single to center to plate Gessner and freshman
Tori Zangrilli.
With the top of the order back up to start the second, Bilotti reached on an error by the center fielder and advanced to second on the play, before crossing the dish on a double to left field by classmate
Kristin Cancelliere. Junior
Nicole Iasiello drove in the Knights' final run in the top of the third on a sac fly to left field that allowed Zangrilli to score from third.
ARCADIA LEADERS: Bilotti and Zangrilli powered the offense with two hits and two runs scored each. Five other players recorded a hit, while Bilotti, Cancelliere, Gessner and freshman
Mary Pat Murray each had a double.
ALBRIGHT LEADERS: Five different players recorded a hit for the Lions, however the only extra-base hit was a double from Camille Sears.
IN THE CIRCLE: Freshman
Kylee Schwind (12-6) picked up the win for the Knights, allowing six hits with two walks and three strikeouts. Riley Gerenda (13-10) took the loss allowing six runs (four earned) on nine hits with four walks and a strikeout.
GAME 2: ARCADIA 7, ALBRIGHT 0
HOW IT HAPPENED: Once again the Knights struck early, as Murray drove in Hess with a single through the left side with two outs in the top of the first inning. The frosh struck again in the top of the fifth inning, when she sent a one-out, bases loaded offering to right center to plate two runners. Fast forward to the top of the seventh, Iasiello got in on the action when she came to the plate with the bases loaded and two outs. The Bethlehem, Pennsylvania native sent the first pitch she saw over the left field fence for a grand slam.
ARCADIA LEADERS: Murray went 4-4 in the game with a double, three RBI and a run scored. Hess also shined with a 3-4 game with a double and two runs scored.
ALBRIGHT LEADERS: Sears went 2-3 to lead the Lions, while two other players recorded base hits.
IN THE CIRCLE: Murray (9-3) got the job in the circle, allowing four hits with a walk and five strikeouts in seven innings of work. Sears (2-6) took the loss for Albright, allowing seven runs (six earned) on 12 hits with two walks and one strikeout.
