PHILADELPHIA – The Arcadia University baseball team hung a crooked number on the scoreboard in each of the first three innings on its way to a 9-3 non-conference victory over nationally ranked The College of New Jersey Wednesday afternoon at Erny Field.

FOR THE RECORD: The Knights improved to 27-9 for the season after recording their 12th win in 14 tries. The 27 victories so far this season are tied for second-most in program history. The 2006 team went 27-14, while the 2004 squad set the record for wins with a record of 28-16. The Lions fell to 23-10 for the season with the loss, which was their third in four games.

IN THE POLLS: The Knights are receiving votes in both the American Baseball Coaches Association/Collegiate Baseball and D3Baseball.com/National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association polls that were released this week. TCNJ is ranked 15th in the nation this week by the ABCA and 16th by D3Baseball.com.

HOW IT HAPPENED: Patrick Anderson gave the Lions a 1-0 lead in the top of the first after scoring from third on a wild pitch, but that lead didn't last long as Arcadia plated three runs in the bottom of the frame to take the lead for good. Senior
Justin Chasmar drove in junior
Nick Cardace and sophomore
Bryan Gillen with a double down the right field line before heading home following an error on that same play. Sophomore
Luke Hohenstein drove in a pair of runs with his double to center in the second, and sophomore
Sean Carew pushed two runs across on a squeeze play in the third.

A solo homer off the bat of David Cardona III in the fifth and a RBI-single from Tommy McCarthy in the sixth cut TCNJ's deficit to 7-3, but Arcadia answered with an RBI single from Gillen in the sixth and a RBI-double from Carew in the seventh for the 9-3.

ON THE HILL: Freshman
Andrew Scholz got the start and improved to 4-1 after yielding just one run before handing the game to the bullpen, which didn't allow a run over the final three innings. Austin Lindsay fell to 1-1 after giving up seven runs (six earned) over his five innings of work.

ARCADIA AT BAT: Carew finished the day 2 for 4 with a double, three RBIs and a run scored, while Chasmar was 1 for 2 with a double, a walk, three runs scored and two runs driven in. Gillen was 2 for 5 with an RBI and a runs scored, while Cardace went 2 for 3 with a double and scored two times.

TCNJ AT BAT: Anderson finished 2 for 4 with a run scored, while McCarthy went 2 for 4 with an RBI. They accounted for four of the Lions' nine hits in the game.
