GLENSIDE, Pa. – The fourth-seeded Arcadia University men's tennis team is set to travel to top-seeded Messiah for the MAC Commonwealth Championship semifinals Tuesday afternoon; match time is set for 3:30 p.m.
ABOUT ARCADIA: The Knights enter the postseason with a 10-6 overall record, including a 4-3 record in the conference. The Scarlet and Grey are led by senior
Wesley Wei with 12 wins in singles action this season, including 10 in the second flight. Freshman
Nick Simeone and
Drake Hanak follow Wei with 11 wins each; Simeone has been Arcadia's primary No. 1, while Hanak has played mostly at No. 5 this spring and each are 7-3 in their last 10 matches. Sophomores
Jaime Zeng Zhu and
John Zinzer have nine wins apiece playing in the middle of the lineup.
Zinzer has teamed up with freshman
Jake McBride for a team-best 11 doubles wins playing primarily at No. 2. Simeone and Wei are 5-3 together in the first flight.
ARCADIA IN THE CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT: This marks the fourth time in the last five seasons the Knights have qualified for conference postseason play. After upsetting second-seeded Stevenson in last season's semifinals, the third-seeded Knights advanced to the MAC Commonwealth Championship final for the first time in program history.
ABOUT MESSIAH: The Falcons earned the top seed after going undefeated in conference play this season; Messiah went 10-5 overall. Tim Dunn is 12-3 in the top singles spot to lead the team, while Devin Esch is second on the team in wins with 10 in the third flight. Alex Mantsevich also has 10 wins, playing mainly in the fifth flight, and has won nine straight matches.
In doubles play, the duo of Dunn and Connor Graybeal is 12-5 at No. 1, while Esch has teamed with Austin Warren in the second flight for a 14-2 record.
LAST MEETING: Messiah took the regular season meeting 9-0 in early April in Grantham.
