GLENSIDE, Pa. – The Arcadia University Athletics Department has announced a year-long campaign to provide support for the victims and areas affected by Hurricanes Harvey and Irma. The idea behind this effort is to provide funding for a contingent of Arcadia Athletics staff members and student-athletes to travel to the affected areas at a future date and/or make a financial donation to assist with recovery efforts. Arcadia Athletics is partnering with the Arcadia Community and Civic Engagement Center as part of this relief effort.
"When I was at Stevens Institute of Technology as the assistant director of athletics, the administration embarked on a similar campaign to aid in recovery efforts following Hurricane Katrina," said Director of Athletics
Brian Granata. "I was fortunate enough to have been granted the opportunity to travel to Louisiana with a group of students to rebuild homes. It was a tremendous experience and so rewarding to have been able to make a tangible contribution in the face of so much devastation. It is my hope that we are able to provide a similar service opportunity for a group of Arcadia Athletics representatives or to make a sizable financial contribution to aid in recovery efforts in Texas."
To do its part, Arcadia Athletics will contribute one dollar from every paid admission fee this academic year at men's and women's soccer, field hockey, men's and women's basketball and men's and women's lacrosse to this campaign. If spectators wish to contribute more, donation boxes will be located at these events as well as other athletic contests where admission fees are not charged. Additionally, various Arcadia Athletics teams have expressed an interest in running additional fundraisers whereby the funds will help support this campaign.
The Arcadia Athletics Department thanks everyone in advance for their contributions to a cause that has affected so many people throughout the world. Should anyone have any questions or would like to know more about how they can help, please contact Director of Athletics
