HOBOKEN, N.J. – The Arcadia University women's volleyball team walked away with a 1-1 record on the second day of the Stevens Institute of Institute of Technology Ducks Classic Saturday afternoon. The Knights opened the day with a 3-1 win of New York University (NYU) before falling 3-0 to Stevens Tech.
FOR THE RECORD: The Scarlet and Grey moved to 7-3 on the year. The Violet dropped to 3-9 overall including a loss to No. 19 Eastern earlier in the day, while the Ducks improved to 10-2, as they also took down No. 24 Christopher Newport earlier in the day.
ARCADIA 3, NYU 1 (23-25, 25-21, 25-11, 25-20)
HOW IT HAPPENED: After falling in the opening set, the Scarlet and Grey battled back from an early deficit in the second set. A pair of aces from freshman
Julia Paliwodzinski helped spark a 16-3 run for the Knights. With freshman Miranda Baronet on serve, the final six points of the set went to the Knights, capped by a kill from junior
Lizzie Joseph for the 25-21 set win.
Arcadia pounced early in the third set, scoring eight of the first 10 points. Junior
Katie Wilson recorded a kill to open a seven-point run for the Knights that was capped by a freshman
Maddie Sehrt kill for a 17-6 lead; the Knights went on to claim the set 25-11. The final set was a back-and-forth affair until freshman
Lauren Enfield capped a match-ending six point run with a kill.
ARCADIA LEADERS: Enfield led Arcadia with 13 kills, along with nine digs. Joseph hit 41.7% as she registered 12 kills. Paliwodzinski dished out a match-leading 37 assists to go along with 10 digs. Sophomore
Emily Eng led the way defensively with 19 digs.
NYU LEADERS: Caroline Rapp posted 14 kills to lead the Violet's offense. Zel Fortson had a team-best 17 assists, while Kathryn Goyette handed out 14 helpers. Defensively, Grace Napolitano recorded 27 digs.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS: The Knights outscored the Violet 64-52 in the match on 47 kills compared to NYU's 34. Arcadia also recorded more aces (11-9), assists (44-31) and digs (64-53) than the opposition.
STEVENS TECH 3, ARCADIA 0 (25-17, 25-9, 25-21)
ARCADIA LEADERS: Joseph led the Knights with nine kills in the match, while adding a pair of block assists and four digs. Paliwodzinski dished out 15 assists to go along with three kills and seven digs. Eng led the way defensively with nine digs, while handing out five assists offensively.
STEVENS TECH LEADERS: Casey King led the way with 11 kills to go along with six digs. Sara Hain followed with 10 kills and four block assists. Julie Greco chipped in 35 assists, while Sydni Horner registered 10 digs.
