ANNVILLE, Pa. – Four different players registered double-digit kills to lead the Arcadia University women's volleyball team to a 3-2 win at Lebanon Valley Wednesday night.
FOR THE RECORD: The Knights moved to 8-3 on the year, while remaining unbeaten in conference play at 3-0. The Dutchmen fell to 6-4 overall and 2-1 in MAC Commonwealth action.
HOW IT HAPPENED: After falling in a tightly contested first set 25-20, the Knights used a 13-point run to crack the second set wide open. Sophomore
Emily Eng was on serve for the run, while juniors
Lizzie Joseph and
Becca Campf combined for five kills over the span. The spurt opened a 17-7 lead for the Scarlet and Grey before they went on the claim the set 25-18.
Arcadia jumped out to an early 5-1 lead in the third set before the teams traded the next six points to bring the score to 8-4. The hosts battled back and used an eight-point run to claim a 16-13 lead; the Knights came as close as one before falling 25-19.
The fourth set saw Arcadia jump ahead early, before forcing a decisive fifth set by scoring seven of the sets' final nine points for a 25-19 win. A change in momentum saw the Knights behind 6-4 to open the fifth set, however an 8-1 spurt that gave the Scarlet a 12-7 advantage set up the 15-8 set win; Joseph recorded the match-clinching kill.
ARCADIA LEADERS: Freshman
Lauren Enfield led the Arcadia attack with 16 kills; Joseph (14), sophomore
Shannon Ryan (14) and Campf (10) joined her in double-digit kills. Senior
Colleen Stengel handed out 48 assists. Eng led the defense with 15 digs, while also recording a team-leading four aces. Sophomore
Mackenzie Hale finished with 11 digs and three aces.
LEBANON VALLEY LEADERS: Jess Attieh led the Dutchmen with 17 kills, while Amanda Sides contributed 10. Jensen Burnheimer dished out 34 assists. Defensively, three players recorded double-figure digs led by Emily Smeltz with 23.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS: Arcadia outscored the hosts 81-56, while posting 61 kills compared to 44 for Lebanon Valley and doubling up the Dutchmen in aces 12-6. The Knights hit 18.3% as a team and Lebanon Valley hit 16.2%.
