HAVERFORD, Pa. – The 20th-ranked Arcadia University women's soccer team opened the 2017 season in winning fashion, taking down Haverford 2-1 in the Haverford Kickoff Classic Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED: Senior
Jess Kelly was the offensive star for the Knights after netting both goals. The teams battled to a 0-0 tie at the half before Kelly converted a penalty kick in the 49th minute to break the ice. The Langhorne, Pa. native struck again in the 63rd minute when she buried a shot from the left side to the far post to put the Scarlet and Grey up by two. Haverford's Saede Eifrig got the hosts on the board when found the ball in a scrum inside the six and put it past freshman keeper

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: Arcadia controlled the shots battle, outshooting the Fords 13-7, including an 8-5 margin in shots on goal. Corner kicks were near even, with the Knights taking eight and Haverford taking six.
IN GOAL: Williams (1-0-0) picked the win in her collegiate debut as she made four saves. Julie Hanss (0-1-0) took the loss for Haverford while making five saves.
