Pair of Cyr Goals Leads Field Hockey over Mighty Macs

IMMACULATA, Pa. – The Arcadia University field hockey team hit the road Tuesday night, taking down the Immaculata Might Macs 6-1 led by two goals from sophomore Sydney Cyr.

FOR THE RECORD: With the win, Arcadia moved to 7-3 on the year, while Immaculata dropped to 2-7.

HOW IT HAPPENED: Arcadia's offense was firing on all cylinders from the opening whistle, finding the back of the net on the game's first two shots. Freshman Lauren Dougherty opened the scoring in the sixth minute when she buried her team-leading 11th goal of the year off a feed from classmate Michaela Ferlow. Just shy of a minute later, Cyr netted her first tally of the day off a penalty corner inserted by senior Liz Stierle.

Ferlow put the game's third shot on cage just minutes before Cyr netted her second marker off a double assist from Dougherty and junior Gabby Sedares. The Knights took a 4-0 lead to the half after Stierle scored off an assist from junior Kayla Brennan in the 29th minute. Of its 11 shots taken over the first 35 minutes of play, Arcadia put nine on cage.

Cyr smelled the hat trick in the early goings of the second half as she beat the keeper in the 42nd minute but was denied on a defensive save. The Mighty Macs got on the board off a penalty corner in the 56th minute only to have Brennan respond in the 60th minute. Ferlow capped the scoring in the 69th minute off an assist from senior Lindsay Bechtold.
