HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Arcadia University women's volleyball team traveled to Haverford for a tri-match with 24
th-ranked Johns Hopkins and Haverford Saturday afternoon. The Knights fell 3-0 to the Blue Jays and the Fords.
FOR THE RECORD: The Knights now sit at 11-7 on the year. Johns Hopkins also defeated Haverford 3-0 and holds a 13-2 overall record. The Fords are 10-7.
NO. 24 JOHNS HOPKINS 3, ARCADIA 0 (25-11, 25-21, 25-22)
HOW IT HAPPENED: After falling in the first set, Arcadia held their own against the Blue Jays in the second and third sets. Trailing by one early in the second set, the Knights put together a quick four-point spurt to open a 6-3 lead. Freshman Maddie Serht and sophomore
Shannon Ryan each recorded a kill in the spurt, while freshman
Miranda Baronett capped the run with an ace. The Scarlet and Grey again battled back from a deficit, coming out of a timeout to go on a 7-1 run to tie the set at 15. Juniors
Lizzie Joseph and
Katie Wilson capped the run with back-to-back block assists. With the set tied at 19, Johns Hopkins went on a four-point run to take the lead for good.
The third set played out in similar fashion, as the Blue Jays held the early lead before the Knights trimmed its deficit to 10-9 on the heels of a five-point run. Arcadia made a late push, staving off match-point three times before the Blue Jays took the win.
ARCADIA LEADERS: Joseph led Arcadia's attack with eight kills, while registering five block assists. Senior
Colleen Stengel led the team with 16 assists, while chipping in 10 digs on the defensive side. Sophomore
Emily Eng totaled 11 digs.
JOHNS HOPKINS LEADERS: Elizabeth Wuerstle recorded 11 kills to lead the Blue Jays, while Natalie Aston handed out a match-high 17 assists. On the defensive side, Louisa Kishton registered 13 digs.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS: Arcadia scored 33 points on 24 digs, eight blocks and an ace. Johns Hopkins totaled 48 points on 37 kills, nine aces and two blocks.
HAVERFORD 3, ARCADIA 0 (25-23, 25-14, 25-12)
HOW IT HAPPENED: Arcadia built momentum early, as it led through the first 21 points. The teams exchanged small leads throughout the rest of the set using quick spurts. The Fords scored the set's last two points to take the win. Haverford used big early runs in both the second and third sets to take contro.
ARCADIA LEADERS: Freshman
Allison Elechko recorded a team-leading 10 kills in the match, while tying for the team-lead in digs with 12 with sophomore
Emily Eng. Stengel handed out 16 assists.
HAVERFORD LEADERS: Sara Matsumara and Natalie Pisch each registered 11 kills, while Zoe Wong handed out 31 assists. Matsumara led all players with 20 digs.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS: Arcadia scored 31 points on 22 kills, six aces and three blocks. The Fords totaled 59 points on 39 kills, 14 aces and six blocks.
