GLENSIE, Pa. – The Arcadia University men's soccer team opened the home portion of its schedule Wednesday, dropping a hard fought contest to Ursinus 3-2 on a rainy Jean Lenox West Field.
FOR THE RECORD: The Knights now sit at 2-1 on the season, while the Bears moved to 1-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED: Junior
Ryan Hammer continued his hot start as he finished a cross from senior
Bradley McKim just over two minutes in for an early 1-0 advantage. The visitors quickly retaliated as Derek Rudy netted a cross from Alexis Ayala in the 16
th minute. The 1-1 score until the 75
th minute, when Ursinus took the lead after Arcadia misplayed a clear attempt from inside the box that resulted in an own goal.
The Scarlet and Grey would not go down quietly however. The Knights continued to pressure the Bears' defense, going on to tie the game at two with 1:17 left in regulation. Following a throw in, senior
Georges Fiori fired a shot just below the crossbar that was denied by the goalkeeper, senior
Tyler Ihle collected the rebound and buried it in the back of the net. Ursinus went on to score the game-winner on a goal off a rebound with 16 seconds left on the clock.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS: Arcadia outshot the guests 15-8 overall, however each team put five shots on goal. The corner kick and foul departents were even as each team took three corners and committed 12 fouls.
IN GOAL: Senior
Chris Watson (2-1) made two saves in taking the loss, while Brandon Lillian (1-1) made three saves in earning the win.
