GLENSIDE, Pa. – The Arcadia University field hockey team ran its winning streak to three consecutive games after registering a 5-2 non-conference victory over visiting Wilkes Saturday morning at Jean Lenox West Field.
FOR THE RECORD: The Knights improved to 3-1 for the season with their third straight win. The Colonels fell to 1-3 with the loss.
HOW IT HAPPENED: Arcadia dominated the first half, scoring three times to go up 3-0 at the break. Junior
Gabby Sedares scored each of the team's first two goals, the first coming 4:37 into the game off a feed from classmate
Lindsay Bechtold and then scored off a corner insert from sophomore
Isabelle Houser at 17:23. Junior
Kayla Brennan capped the first half scoring with what proved to be the difference maker off an assist from sophomore
Sydney Cyr at 28:20.
The Colonels came out strong to start the second half and got on the board following Marissa Surdy's first goal 9:34 into the half. They continued to pressure the Knights from there, forcing them to call a timeout to regroup and quickly responded with a goal just 12 seconds late as Bechtold found the back of the cage off a centering pass from freshman
Lauren Dougherty, who capped the scoring in the game five and a half minutes later.
IN GOAL: Freshman
Maya Stern improved her record to 3-1 after totaling seven saves for the Knights. Dallas Kendra picked up eight saves while seeing her record fall to 1-3.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS: Arcadia outshot Wilkes 9-5 in the first half before getting outshot 11-6 in the second. Penalty corners favored the Knights 11-8 in the game thanks to a 9-3 margin in the first half.
