BUENA VISTA, Va. – The Arcadia men's volleyball rallied late, but fell to Southern Virginia, 3-1 (21-25, 20-25, 25-23, 27-29). On the night, sophomore
Jason Manley led the Knights with 18 kills and a .308 hit percentage.
FOR THE RECORD:
- Arcadia dips to 2-3 on the season.
- Southern Virginia moves to 3-2.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The first set was a tightly contested, as after the first 20 points, the set was tied up at 10. The Knights would eventually pull ahead, 18-16, however Southern Virginia battled back. After falling behind by one, the Knights tied the game at 20, before eventually falling, 25-21. Manley finished the first game with a team-high four kills. Freshman Quinn Baily picked up another three kills, aiding the Knights to finish the set with a kill percentage of .346.
- Much like the first set, the second was a close matchup as well. After the first 20 points, the Knights held a two-point edge over Southern Virginia, 11-9. A rally by the hosts would eventually end with the home team on top, 25-20. For Arcadia, Manley registered four kills, with sophomore Austin Braas contributing another three.
- The Scarlet and Grey got on the board in the third set, topping Southern Virginia. After most of the set was neck and neck, the Knights snagged the final two points of the match to win, 25-23. As a team, Arcadia hit .417, with sophomore Robie Moctezuma leading the way with three kills. Manley, Baily, and Braas each added a pair.
- The final set went longer than anticipated, as the teams needed 56 points to determine a winner. Through the first 40, the set was all squared away at 20. Arcadia took a 24-22 lead, needing just one point to end it, however Southern Virginia rallied back. After trading points for another three ties, the home squad eventually finished victorious.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Manley finished with 18 kills in the match, setting a career-high hit percentage of .308.
- The Knights out hit Southern Virginia .277 to .237.
