Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Knights Fall at No. 5 Rowan, 5-1

GLASSBORO, N.J. -- The Arcadia field hockey dropped a 5-1 decision at No. 5 Rowan on Wednesday at Coach Wackar Stadium.

The Knights (10-3) hung tough for much of the game, but the undefeated (13-0) and fifth-ranked Profs proved too much over 70:00.

Rowan needed just 4:39 to open the scoring as Krystyna Hovell scored off a pass from Bridget Guinan to make it 1-0. Carly Flickinger deflected a shot from Gabby Sedares past Morgan Novak to knot the game at 1-1 just under five minutes later.

The Profs regained the lead in the 18th minute when Guinan scored off an assist from Rachel Galante for a 2-1 led, and in the 21st minute, Rowan took advantage of a loose ball in front to make it 3-1 at the break.

What had been a relatively evenly played game in the first half tilted to the home team in the second stanza as Rowan outshot AU 14-3 over the final 35:00 and tacked on a pair of insurance goals for the 5-1 final.

IN GOAL: Ashton Evans started for the Knights and played the first 61:48, allowing five goals and making seven saves. Allison Nikolaus and Catherine Bergmueller combined to play out the remainder of the game. Novak played all 70:00 for the Profs and came up with eight saves against one goal allowed.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: Despite a 27-10 advantage in shots, the Profs held only a 14-9 edge in shots on goal … Rowan did boast a 17-9 lead in penalty corners … The assist for Sedares marked the sixth consecutive game she has notched at least one point, and she leads the team with nine goals and 23 points on the season … After a three-game scoreless streak, Flickinger now has at least one point in each of the last three games and is second on the team in goals (6) and points (15).

UP NEXT: The Knights play host to Stevenson on Saturday beginning at 12 p.m.
