GLENSIDE, Pa. -- The Arcadia women's volleyball dropped a 3-2 decision to Clarkson on Friday night inside Alumni Gymnasium.
Â
The Knights (17-6) won the first set 25-23, then saw Clarkson (10-8) pick up a 25-22 win in the second to even the match a 1-1. Arcadia pulled away for a 25-14 win in the third, and seemed to have the match in hand, but the Golden Knights, an NCAA Tournament team from a year ago, won the fourth, 25-22, and sealed the win with a 15-9 win in the fifth set.
Â
Arcadia, after taking a 2-1 lead in the match, seemed well positioned to pick up the win when it took a 13-8 lead in the fourth set. The Golden Knights answered with a 6-1 scoring run to pull even at 14-14. Clarkson took an 18-17 lead, but
Lizzie Joseph and
Shannon Ryan put down kills for the Knights to give AU a 19-18 lead.
Â
Two straight points from the Golden Knights gave the visitors a 10-19 lead, and despite managing to tie the contest twice down the stretch, Arcadia was unable to pull in front and eventually fell 25-22.
Â
Ryan and Joseph paced the Knights' offense. The duo combined for 40 of the Scarlet and Grey's 60 kills, with Ryan putting down a season-high 21, and Joseph a season-best 19.
Julia Paliwodzinski had 50 assists and 13 digs, and
Emily Eng added to her school-record total with 26 digs.
Maddie Sehrt added six kills and three total blocks on the day.
Â
The Knights are back on the court tomorrow at Stevens Tech, where they will take on the Ducks and the Bombers of Ithaca beginning at 12 p.m.
