GLENSIDE, Pa. – The Arcadia field hockey team clinched a playoff berth with a 1-0 win over Widener on Wednesday night at Jean Lenox West Field and Delran Pavilion.
The Knights improve to 12-3 on the season and 5-0 in conference play, while Widener falls to 7-6 and 2-3 in MAC Commonwealth play.
Arcadia got on the board with just over 10 minutes to play in the first half.
Lauren Dougherty fired a shot from the right side that was deflected by
Carly Flickinger past Widener goalie Victoria Byrne, to give the Knights a 1-0 lead.
The Knights took their one-goal advantage into the second half. The Pride had an opportunity to even the score in the 52nd minute, when Madi Radnoff took a shot from the right side, but a defensive save by
Sydney Cyr kept Arcadia's one goal lead intact.
Arcadia was able to hold off Widener and take the victory.
IN GOAL: Ashton Evans played all 70 minutes in goal for the Knights, making five saves … This is the sixth shutout of the season for Evans … Victoria Byrne played all 70 minutes for the Pride, making one save.
BY THE NUMBERS: The Knights had just two shots on goal in the win which is the lowest shot on goal total in a win for Arcadia this season … The 1-0 shutout is the Knights' eighth shutout of the season … The Scarlet & Grey have won nine of their 10 contests … Dougherty has now registered a point in two straight games.
